(Season Four Teaser) The War in Ukraine & Military Mental Health - With Brigadier General (Ret.) Jack Hammond & Mistress Carrie

15m · Published 03 Mar 17:00

Season Four of Home Base Nation will start in just a few weeks, and we have been working over the past few months to bring you another great season. Given what is going on in the world right now, our mental health and military community has its finger on the pulse with you all and our hearts are with the Ukrainian people and all those trying to escape the violence in the Ukraine right now.We sat down on Tuesday to record an upcoming episode with Mistress Carrie, Boston’s beloved Rock DJ and spouse of an active-duty Marine, in conversation with our very own Brigadier General Jack Hammond. The two met in 2011 in Afghanistan, when General Hammond was leading command, and Mistress Carrie embedded herself with U.S. troops there. During this recording, the conversation turned to the situation in the Ukraine, and specifically how it might be affecting our veteran and military family communities. We acknowledge that this new conflict will stir up complicated emotions and memories among our veterans, active-duty troops, and all our military families, and we felt it was important to share this with our audience today, ahead of the full episode release.

Operation Christmas Drop - Official Trailer / Netflix

The Guam Daily Post - Article on OCD

Learn more about OCD:

"Operation Christmas Drop is the world’s longest running humanitarian airdrop training mission, providing critical supplies to many Micronesian islands, impacting more than 20,000 people across 1.8 million square nautical miles of operating area. The drop is the oldest ongoing Department of Defense mission which remains in full operation. The operation was first conducted in 1951, when the aircrew of aWB-29aircraft assigned to the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, formerly assigned to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, was flying a mission to the south of Guam over the Micronesian atoll ofKapingamarangi. When they saw the islanders waving to them, the crew quickly gathered some items they had on the plane, placed them in a container with a parachute attached and dropped the cargo as they circled again. In 2015, theJapan Air Self-Defense Forceand theRoyal Australian Air Forceparticipated in the operation along with the United States Air Force. Japan and Australia each provided oneC-130 Herculesto join the three C-130s provided by the United States. In 2019, Royal New Zealand Air Force has joined Operation Christmas Drop. Stories from the Intrepid - What Prince Harry, an iconic WWII aircraft carrier, and three brave Americans can teach us

44m · Published 07 Dec 21:03

The Intrepid Valor Award - Honorees included Air Force Veteran / Master Sgt (Ret) Kyle Hines, Surviving Spouse of Lt Col Matt Block, Barbara Block, Army Special Forces Veteran Julian Kitching, US Navy Servicemember Wayne “Ty” Garvin, and Marine / Chief Warrant Officer Stephen Rudinksi.

"Service isn't loud. Service is what happens in the quiet and when people aren't looking. It's about how we take care of each other every single day. It's about the camaraderiewe share, the laughs, the comfort, the pain, the challenge and yes, the banter. Throughout my time in the military and after, I recognized and understood that for many who have served, or are still serving, it might not feel right to stand out amongst the team and be recognized. But you deserveto be recognized."

-Prince Harry Duke of Sussex / 11-10-21 / Salute To Freedom

The US National Anthem was sung by MJ Songstress

Battlefield of Dreams - Featuring Green Beret Nate Boyer

1h 6m · Published 05 Nov 18:00

This conversation was recorded in August, 2021 at the time of the US was pulling troops out of Afghanistan. HBN released this relevant content on all of our minds that week: Your Sacrifice Matters (8/23/21)

Today we dive into Nate’s work and experiences at home. What moved him towards the military and about what he continues to do for his own form of service. Looking backwards, Nate’s story seems to fit together at every turn. But what’s behind the scenes is always seeing opportunity, along with grit and dedication at every step, not to mention learning from the natives whether in the locker room with the Seahawks, shoulder to shoulder with the Afghans, or on the movie set learning how to tell the stories we need to know about.

Nate continues to serve in many ways, and cofounded Merging Vets And Players (MVP) along with partner Jay Glazer, has acted in several roles, and is now in the process of releasing the movie he directed that outlines the genesis of MVP and what it means, about the bonds shared and finding belonging and meaning for new chapters for Athletes, Special Operators and all veterans returning home to civilian life.

Here is the full conversation we had at our Home Base Center of Excellence following a memorable Red Sox game the night before, where Nate’s friend and supporter of MVP First baseman Kyle Schwarber took the plate at Fenway. It’s been about two months since, and although the Sox didn’t make it to the end this year, I do remember Kyle’s grand slam during the playoffs 2 weeks ago and thought of how Nate in California was feeling the same energy of that stadium as everyone else.

Thanks to Green Beret Nate Boyer for your service, and your ongoing efforts to serve others.

We’d like to dedicate these conversations with Nate to his friend and colleague Master Sergeant Brad Keys who still guides Nate to this day, and through Nate he gives that guidance and support to many others.

Inside and Outside the Mask: Art Therapy At Home Base

18m · Published 26 Oct 18:23

...Mask work is steeped in human history, and in many cultures around the world. Mask therapy work with service members stems from the work of Art Therapist Melissa Walker at Creative Forces at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (or NICoE), part of Walter Reed Medical Center. The language of trauma may not be accessed, or not there at all. And we recognize that the important thing here is the process of creating a unique and personalized mask – so that the conversations can accompany or follow...
