Is there a link between Creativity and Mental Illness?
4m · PublishedFor my first podcast, I wanted to address the ideas behind creativity and mental illness and how the two interlink. However, I did not want the dangerous result of interpretation that creativity will fix mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. For that reason, I felt it highly important to share a snippet of an interview with a medical professional, Professor Nancy Andreasen, who was invited by the Creative Thinking Project based at The University of Auckland, New Zealand to answer, "is there a relationship between creativity and mental illness?”. Throughout my research process, this interview was always at the forefront of my head and was vital for me to remember – this thesis is not aiming to prove that creativity can cure mental health issues, but rather aid in the recovery process. It’s important to highlight the complications as well as the beneficial factors that come from utilising creativity. Additionally, I wanted to ensure that all my findings were backed up with evidence and statistics
