We recognize that the word "Emmanuel" means God WITH us. When Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born as a baby in Bethlehem, God truly came as close to us as he ever has and ever could. That's significant, not only at Christmas, but for our entire lives, and we'll be exploring that together.

As Christians, it's important to be reminded that our story doesn't end with this life. One day, when Jesus returns, we will be with God in Heaven. But what does that really mean? People come in all different shapes and sizes, colours, nationalities, and social classes, and there are a wide variety of other characteristics that also make us unique. But despite our many differences, we all share something in common: we will all die. It's a challenging and even uncomfortable topic at times, but we'll be considering it together, as Pastor Kent brings a sermon titled "Death." We'll also be celebrating communion together.

Without him, our "religion" doesn't exist, as it bears his name. Without his sacrifice, we're lost in our sin, and doomed to eternal separation from God. Without his experience as one of us, we wouldn't have an advocate who personally understands the joys and pain of being human. Without his divinity, he couldn't serve as our divine connection to eternal life, and God's ultimate plan for all creation. We're continuing in our sermon series "Rooted," and our sermon this week will focus on "Jesus Christ" as Pastor Kent leads us in considering all the ways in which Jesus is essential to our faith and our lives both now, and into eternity.
