College Talk - Ep. 54 - IRS D(o or don't?)RT!

22m · Published 16 Mar 21:30

We're back! And then we'll be on another break until April.

It's a short and sweet episode today, and our last FAFSA conversation. Quick reminder, the state of Michigan extended their priority FAFSA deadline to May 1st! So get filing!

Today, we're talking about the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRSDRT)! Very exciting! Kind of. We're going to talk about why it's great, and more secure, and helps with verification.

We're also going to talk about verification, because that's a tricksy process to deal with. We'll go through what it is, how to handle it, and why I am rolling my eyes about it. In fact, I reference an amazing Brookings article to enhance my eye roll power. Here's the link to that article: https://www.brookings.edu/blog/brown-center-chalkboard/2021/06/07/fafsa-verification-an-undue-burden-for-students-and-public-colleges/

College Talk - Ep. 53 - Independent or Dependent, That Is 10 Questions

28m · Published 02 Feb 05:37

We're back and busting more FAFSA myths! Today we talk about how hard the FAFSA really is, and if it's just there to steal your identity? It's not a bad question, because it does ask a ton of personal information. I promise the FAFSA is not going to do that. But! Make sure you only access the FAFSA through fafsa.gov or https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

We also cover all ten questions that help students understand if they are dependent or independent and what that even means!

In our next episode, we will be breaking down another FAFSA myth and talk about this IRS DRT thing.

College Talk - Ep. 52 - Dun Dun Deadlines!!

37m · Published 19 Jan 05:00

We're back from our winter break, and as promised, we're talking FAFSA.

Beth busts the first FAFSA myth: Filling out the FAFSA means you have to take out loans. WRONG! You don't have to take out the loans offered, it is a choice. Beth also explains the differences between the loans you will see on award letters from different colleges.

Beth also talks about the FAFSA deadlines, including the deadlines for every state! Need more info on your state? Click here: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/fafsa-deadlines

In our next episode, we will be breaking down another FAFSA myth and talk about the differences between filing as a dependent or independent student.

College Talk - Ep. 48 - This Episode is the Goal!

31m · Published 03 Nov 04:00

Watch out world! She has goals! Micro-Goals! And she is crushing every single one!

That's right, this week's episode is all about goals. How to set them, and how to SMASH them. It's pretty simple really, we're going to talk about building confidence and self belief through micro-goals, WOOP, and SMART goals.

I love a good spot of research, so there are links to ALL of the articles I used to make this episode. I am NOT a productivity expert (I'm typing this less than 50 minutes before this bad boy airs) and so everything I bring to the table is researched. Enjoy!

College Talk - Ep. 47 - Time to Make Time for More Time!

32m · Published 21 Oct 03:38

We had some technical difficulties but we made it happen, and somehow still on Wednesday!

Episode 47 is here and full of time management strategies. This is just a small sampling of all the time management methods out there. I wouldn't even say it's a full charcuterie board of strategies, just the cheese. So if none of these feel like they will work for you, that's okay! There are so many more to try.
