Rituals as Kids Hit Milestones #003

23m · Published 06 Sep 20:00

Our oldest just started middle school, so we scheduled a special "event" to celebrate him.

In this episode we talk about the why behind rituals: creating moments that mark significant developments in our children's lives. Hear all about the middle school ritual we created for our son: the structure, the participants, the atmosphere and the bottled soda.

Be encouraged that a ritual in your family can be a significant marker in your child's life without it being an overwhelming project to complete: rituals can be simple and still meaningful.

Our Stat of the Week comes from the Mi Padrino 2019 Quinceañera Report.

Contribution Charts, Allowance & Chores #002

32m · Published 06 Sep 19:00

How does anything get done around the house? Well, the contribution chart is the way we engage our kids in the process.

Doing chores is a straightforward idea with relatively easy rules, but why does it feel so difficult to make work? In this episode we discuss the chores our kids do and the basics of our contribution chart that tracks it all. We provide insight into how we make the chore process manageable (lots of grace), some things we have tried (and failed at) before, and a few other things we've learned along the way (e.g., patience).
