Enter... The Sandman

59m · Published 07 Oct 08:00

Where do you go when you fall asleep? Some might say you see the lives you lead in other parallel universes. Some might even say that your nightmares can consume you. Morpheus, The Sandman, AKA the lord of The Dreaming, would tell you that you have entered his domain and that everything that happens there is his!

It's a very special episode of Flame ON! dear listeners, as our hosts have found the gateway to The Dreaming and convened to discuss a topic that is very near and dear to their hearts. Every so often a piece of pop culture arises that our hosts have been waiting for and will devour readily in order to share their opinions and this topic just so happens to be one! Adapting The Sandman, the beloved graphic novel series written by Neil Gaiman and released from January 1989 until March 1996, Netflix always had an extremely difficult task at hand. How do you take a world of such rich imagination and turn it into reality? The answer seemed to be, to throw $165 million dollars into the production! Did this work? What about the casting choices? Some fans seemed to be a bit skeptical about some of the blind casting that was done. Did the choices made by the creative team truly bring these characters to life in the best way possible? Would the surprise drop of an extra episode containing two bottle stories really generate any additional buzz for the show? Would two drag queens who love to watch spoil the surprise that Netflix had for The Sandman fans? Ok, the answer to that is yes - if you caught it in time! Find out what our hosts thought of the show and what they hope to see in the future as you listen in to this episode!

Thor: Love and Thunder Microsode

1h 23m · Published 17 Sep 19:43

She's got eyes of the bluest skies, the power of Eternity, and all the screaming goats you can handle. The fourth installment of the Thor film franchise has made its way from the theater to your home television, so it's time to emerge from the shadows and protect New Asgard. Whether you are worthy of Mjolnir, as jealous as Stormbreaker, or even if you flicked too hard, this is the podcast for you!

Welcome back fellow Midgard-bound Asgardians! As fall descends across the land, our mighty Warriors Three have assembled at the table of King Valkyrie to discuss, dissect, and disseminate upon the adventures of the one and only Thor. Wait. There's another Thor? Helmed by the wacky and wonderful director Taika Waititi, the fourth installment in the Thor franchise takes the color saturation, jokes, and screaming goats and turns the dial all the way up to 11. To kick off the episode, the boys go around the table and share the parts of the film that really tickled their fancy. From the action, story telling, rear nudity of our star Chris Hemsworth, and the amazing villainy of Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, to seeing the art of Russell Dauterman come to life on the silver screen, there's a lot to love about this movie. From there, the boys then shift the conversation to the aspects of the film that could have used a bit more tweaking. From needing room for the serious moments to breathe, a more fleshed out story, to less screaming goats (for some of the boys), they don't hold back on sharing their thoughts on how they would improve the movie. Finally, the boys dive into wild conjecture and speculation on where the story could head from here. What was their final take on the movie? Listen in to find out!

Gay Life: The Queer Ideal Dream

1h 9m · Published 12 Aug 08:00

Did you ever drift off when you were young and dream about what your life would be like when you were older? Did that ideal dream change as you began to accept your queerness? As you learn more about who you are, it's always easy to look back and wish you could do it all over again, but is that really the best thing that could happen? Load up this new volume of Now That's What I Call Gay Life and get ready to hop in the time machine!

The dog days of summer have had us sweating, but BeeJay is ready to take over the host chair and lead another discussion in our Now That's What I Call Gay Life series. Joined by Pat Da Bear, BeeJay posits the question, what is your ideal life and future and how has that changed over time? In this very intimate discussion the boys open up about what life was like for them as young queer folks and how the heteronormative structure of their worlds shaped their ideal future and how coming to terms with being gay changed their thoughts about what that future actually looks like. They also share stories about their queer coming of age, whether or not they had a guide on their journey and how they feel that could have changed their path, and whether or not they would want to go back in time and change their journey with the knowledge they have now. It's a super deep and open conversation and they'd love to hear about your ideal future in the comments.
