"Ladies and gentlemen... rock and roll."
Those are the opening words spoken on August 1, 1981 that launched MTV and the music video revolution. But it actually started before that in smaller forms with artists like David Bowie and Queen pushing video as a medium for exposing their music. In this Backtrack we talk about our experiences with music videos as a GenX'ers and even managed to do a little research and learn a thing or two!

All of us at GXG have a love for those classic arcade games we grew up playing in our corner arcades, so it should come as no surprise that we've been closely following the controversy surrounding Billy Mitchell. Mitchell, the first man to ever get a perfect score on Pac-Man, was in the news more than usual recently due to accusations of rules violations in achieving his recorded Donkey Kong high score. His score was removed from Twin Galaxies, the de facto video game high score governing body, he was barre

"I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill..."
"Conjunction Junction, what's your function?"
"Three, is a magic number..."
If you are a GenX'er then all three of these lyrics should've started the music running through your head and brought back memories of Saturday morning cartoons. In this episode we look back on Schoolhouse Rock and how we all learned the preamble and many other things because of it!

Jon and Mo are forced to admit that George won our Spring movie blockbuster wager (and of course George was the picture of grace and dignity about it). On top of that, Mo talks about Solo, Jon recommends a game whose purpose is to sometimes do the wrong thing, and George thinks back on the Rubik's Cube. All this and more!

We've all experienced fads as part of growing up. The Baby Boomers had things like the poodle skirts, the hula hoop, and the yo-yo and GenX had things like Swatches, Rubik's Cube and Tickle me Elmo! We do our best to cover this vast topic on the fads we most remember growing up in the 70's, 80's and 90's. So whip out the boom box and some cardboard and let's break dance!

Imagine a time when you didn't know if your pictures came out for days or weeks after you took them. Imagine only being able to take a limited number of pictures at one time before having to change film. Imagine having to store your pictures in huge binders in order to see them. If that sounds like photo hell to you then you are obviously not a GenX'er! It was the way pictures were done when we were growing up. Listen as we reminisce (and lament!) over what we had to go through in order to capture that perf

WARNING! We hold a spoiler-rich discussion of Infinity War in this episode, so when you hear us give you the heads-up, skip ahead from 12 min 30 sec to 20 min 53 sec to skip that part of the conversation. If you do skip this part, don't forget to come back and listen to it after you've seen the film!
We have to talk about Infinity War of course, but also in this episode; George talks about Cobra Kai, Jon give his opinion of the new season of WestWorld (which George does not agree with) and

Pretty much everybody knows who Ellen is, along with Roseanne, Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, and Eddie Murphy. But did you know they all got their start back in the 70's and 80's? We talk about them and other comedians that we remember, plus we have special guest, Kevin Gootee (https://kevingootee.com) writer and star of "Comics Watching Comics" on Amazon Video to provide his.... unique?... viewpoint and opinions (and trust me, he has a lot of them!)
