In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen try to come up with their own definition of Environmental Storytelling. They prattle on about hypothetical game situations and also talk about environmental storytelling in specific games. Glen and Paul agree to disagree about the exact same thing. Jimmy uses an environmental storytelling technique to add depth to his Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They circle around a sort of definition of what environmental storytelling is and end up with a pretty solid understanding of it (we think). They also debate on how difficult it must be to create environmental storytelling in a 2D game as well as praise current and past developers for putting that challenge on themselves. Secret story unlocked!

In this episode, Paul and Jimmy talk about micro-transactions; both within the current events unfolding around Star Wars Battlefront II, and about some other games that also have micro-transcations. No Glen this week, to quote him, "My mind is mush," so we can't have any mush minds on this podcast! Paul brings Jimmy up to speed about the seething hatred of Reddit versus EA/DICE's newest Star Wars game. Jimmy recalls a certain gametype in Halo 5 that possibly has a pay-to-win model implemented. They discuss the differences between pay-to-win microtranscations and the simpler aesthetic and quality-of-life microtransactions. The topic of microtranscations and post-release downloadable content is very broad and they end up branching off into different styles of games such as mobile games and Free to Play games such as Path of Exile, Dota 2, and League of Legends. Paul talks about Overwatch loot crates. Paul and Jimmy both yearn for times when games were complete at launch. Ultimately, the best case scenario is that the consumers get what they want without having to pay thousands of dollars or playing for hundreds of thousands of hours. Oh boy jumping puzzles!

In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen revisit a horror game that still holds it's own. SPOILERS AHOY (If you've never played Amnesia, give it a go. It's a great game)! They discuss many aspects about the game from simple mechanics to overarching thematical elements. Paul is unphased by scary games and his gamer-instincts kick in to "beat the game." Glen gets fucked up from 5 minutes of Amnesia. Jimmy has to dig up old memories of playing Amnesia the first time. They end up a little off-topic at the end: talking about all things from clowns to Phoenix Wright. Happy Halloween!

In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen talk about one of the oldest and most hotly-contested debates: whether Gaston is actually the hero of Beauty and the Beast. The dudes kick things off with spicy discourse about the new and old Beauty and Beast films (both animated and live-action). After a good amount of time is spent on this topic the boys switch gears to talk more about the overall topic of compelling villains in all types of media. We mention a lot of series in this episode so make sure to check it all out to find out our opinions on what makes a compelling villain. Glen also breaks down and talks about the villain running the US as of late. I refute thee!

In this episode, Paul, & Jimmy (sans Glen this week) return to form to talk shop about the sub-genre of Metroidvania games. Paul and Jimmy played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night a couple years ago and share some memories about that. They both agree that the Metroidvania style of gameplay is very fun and rewarding. Paul loved Super Metroid and Jimmy loved Metroid Fusion so they talk about the elements in those games that stuck out to them. They both have played (or beaten) Ori & the Blind Forest and were so excited to see the culmination of so many good elements in a metroidvania style. In a true return-to-form they talk about everything from minute details to grand schemes in relation to the Metroidvania style. Jimmy embarasses himself publically with singing (linked on twitter) & Paul recommends a steam early-access game (Dead cells).

We're back! In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen REALLY get back into the swing of things by talking about games that they can always return to (or in some cases never return to). Jimmy talks about finding deeper meaning in Wind Waker. Paul talks about RPGs that have little details that are often missed on a first playthrough. Glen reminisces about getting punched in the head by his brother over Simpson's Road Rage. The guys deeply apologize for the hiatus and hope to get back on some sort of schedule soon. They reach a sort of conclusion about the different types of games that have maximum replayability and wax nostalgic about Final Fantasy Tactics. Ah, Good times!

In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen get back into the swing of things by talking about a video game that Paul and Jimmy recently re-played: The first Suikoden. Paul grew up with this game series and is very knowledgeable of the series overall. Jimmy has watched Paul play countless hours of Suikoden and Suikoden 2 and was ready to play himself. Glen chimes in sometimes to keep the conversation on track. Fight for resistance!
