How PlayStation Made Video Games Cool

1h 36m · Published 21 Mar 13:00

Video games were not always the most consumed form of media on the planet. There was a time, not that long ago, where playing video games was just for the nerds. "Why don't you go out and do something?", was a common phrase many of us heard time and time again. However, once PlayStation began it's dominance in the mid to late 90's  slowly but surely the tides of gaming be nerdy were turning. Soon playing video games would become main stream. This once nerdy niche not only became acceptable, but it became the cool thing to do.

Sega Genesis, Sega CD and Sega 32X

1h 49m · Published 13 Dec 14:00

The Sega Genesis released in 1989, but it was not until Sonic the Hedgehog would release in June of 1991 that Sega would really begin to gain market share against Nintendo. The release of Sonic as well as an aggressive ad campaign, would lead to Sega bringing serious competition to Nintendo for the first time. Sega followed up the Genesis with creating the Sega CD which brought a new level of audio as well as improved visuals to the system. Unfortunately, Sega released the 32X shortly before the Saturn would release and would essentially mark the beginning of Sega retreating from console manufacturing. We discuss all of that and a whole lot more on this episode of the Nerdthusiast Gaming Podcast!
