Proxy shareholders inside proposed that Whitehaven use windfall profits  to manage down its mines and ensure the transition of the workforce. Later that day Market Forces sent us a message that MANY more shareholders this year supported the resoluion. The election of the ALP in Australia and the disruption of oil and gas exports to Europe after Russia invaded Ukraine. He says "Europe hesitated then COMMITTED decisively to the new economy" Will Australia make the same committment?We talked about :Regional transformations, such as making agricultural UREA with green hydrogen instead of importing 92% from countries where it is produced using coal  or gas as feedstock. Industrial Transformations, such  as helping China lower its costs of decarbonisation by producing GREEN STEEL here with local iron ore. Methane Transformations by stopping subsidies to new coal and gas projects and mandating the strict prevention of FUGITIVE METHANE EMISSIONS from leaky pipes and mines. A more thorny problem for us, if we want to manufacture zero carbon goods with our superpower resources of wind and solar energy,  is how to extract the TRANSITION MINERALS  here and abroad without riding rough shod over precious ecosystems and sacred places? Ross argues that they are essential for  zero carbon modern medicine and modern life but as a quarry nation we have a huge responsibiliy NOT to continue extracting here and overseas in a damaging way. We did not discuss the alternatives of a post extractivist, steady state economics but we welcome any contributions next year to discuss this VITAL matter. Ross talks about the recent savaging of training for geophysics and mettalurgy specialists. They want to see the creation of an international loss and damage finance facility — a type of fund — at November’s COP27 UN summit, hosted by Egypt. “Wealthier countries bear a moral responsibility” to help poorer nations recover, adapt and build resilience to disasters, said António Guterres, UN secretary-general on Friday. “Let’s not forget that 80 per cent of emissions driving this type of climate destruction are from the G20.”The ARRCC multifaith Climate event at Parramatta Cathedral called on  Prime Minister Albanese to support the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty at Cop 27. To stop subsidies to fossil fuel producers and to prevent new coal and gas projects.Maria Timon  talks to us about her sacred places in Kiribati, including a cemetery now under water. RUSSIA AND SIBERIA MELTING  "The first-ever climate lawsuit in Russia has been filed by a group of activists demanding that the the government take stronger action over the climate crisis.The group wants the Russian authorities to take measures that will reduce the country’s greenhouse emissions, in line with targets of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5C agreed under the 2015 Paris climate accords.Russia is the fourth biggest producer of carbon emissions worldwide, and its average temperatures have risen twice as fast as the global average. The country’s emissions are predicted to reach 2,212m tons of carbon dioxide by 2030." Waseem Mohamed - The Guardian We learn from Vitaly Servetnik that emissions from the oil and gas pipelines from Russia into Europe are greatly adding to Russia's status as fourth greatest emitter. Like Australia they have often received the Colossal Fossil award at UN conferences. But unlike in Australia, climate action in Russia is very risky. Since Cop 26 failed to deliver the finance to countries reeling from climate breakdown we have had more extreme events. Think Lismore floods with all its images of loss and then multiply that for Pakistan when over 7 million have been displaced. Then the  relentless drought in Mexico,China and Somalia plus heatwaves in Europe. Yet emissions are rising and  people all over the world are protesting. One urgent message is to stop  fossil fuel subsidies, bank finances and new projects . The other urgent message is to provide finance for countries devastated by loss and damage. As Dr Saleemul Huq tells Nick Breeze ""Vulnerable Countries Left Glasgow with Tears In Their Eyes". We  need to mobilise our government to defend their rights at the next conference.The Secretary General of the UN after visiting Pakistan's flooded provinces says they are drowning not only in water but in debt and need debt relief as a matter of urgency. Meanwhile, a new coalition of climate action groups called MOVE BEYOND COAL has launched the "Not one more dollar" campaign. They are targetting NAB branches to persuade them they have no social licence to  bankroll Whitehaven Coal Co. From London we hear about tactics from Extinction Rebellion.
