#012 Sleep And Entrepreneurship With Nina Clark

44m · Published 26 Feb 11:08

Nina Clark is the founder of Nightire which was born out of a personal quest to understand sleep, and all that it entails, a bit better… Like many folks I know, I have this thing called can’t-always-shut-my-brain-off-to-go-to-sleep syndrome. I overthink everything and am that person who constantly makes lists in my head and who worries about things that I can’t change; all while lying in bed at night waiting for sleep to set in.

This led to a few years of having a rather patchy sleep routine.

I began doing research into what could help a person sleep better and tried to apply it in my nightly routine: using black-out blinds, taking a relaxing bath, using no screens in the room (i.e. goodbye to Insta-sessions right before bed), and trying anything I could to keep my body temperature on an even keel. That included buying the right sleepwear, which, in turn, got me to focus on an industry that seemed like it had some room for functional innovation (and a bit more personality), which is how the idea for Nightire came about. To create sleepwear that would aid your sleep, is beautiful enough to wear out and about, and bring some vibe back to the bedtime tribe.

Not many people care what they wear to bed, which is a shame as you spend about a third (and most important part) of the day in your PJs. We’re happy to shell out for fancy suits and pencil skirts, but when it comes to our home-wear; a grubby pair of last year’s shorts and a freebie t-shirt from that 5km run we did once upon a time, will do.

But no more. Because Nightire is here:)

1h 10m · Published 12 Feb 14:21

Enna Khan has worked for Amazon, John Lewis and Knight Frank. She is a customer experience expert and co chair of race and faith. Her love for helping people to become confident speakers stems from her experiences in business. For years, she went into presentations without a formula, without practice and without confidence. Whilst she was able to navigate her way up the career ladder, there was always a feeling of being able to achieve more. And when working in an environment where mostly men were making the decisions and she realised that strong communication was way to influence and engage her audience. She decided to change things, and with a mentor, took part in public speaking at every opportunity, a type of exposure therapy. She then started her own public speaking business has coached several people at all levels with a focus on corporate environments.

#010 Love, Relationships And Sexuality With Andrea Balboni

1h 6m · Published 26 Jan 18:08

Andrea Balboni is a sex, love and relationship coach who has dedicated her life to helping people have deeply connected, passionate, nourishing and exciting long-term partnerships full of love.

She had been single for well over a decade when she decided enough was enough. She threw away all of the self-help books that never helped, took a break from speed dating, blind dating and not dating. She stopped listening to the ‘one day when you’re not looking’ and the ‘when you least expect it’ of others.

Andrea discovered new ways of thinking about love and sex. This, together with practical practices and exercises from worlds as diverse as modern psychology, neuroscience and ancient tantric and taoist traditions and shamanic and energy work began to shift things for her.

And finally, she met love.

Now it is her immense pleasure to help others have the same.

#009 Activism And Surviving Trauma With Vicky Alhadeff

1h 10m · Published 15 Jan 16:55

Vicky grew up in Zimbabwe, where the racism she witnessed from a young child, led to her participation in anti-apartheid activities once she had left school and gone to the University of Cape Town. She has worked as a press photographer in South Africa, documenting the shocking lives and brutality people experienced under an apartheid regime.

After becoming vegetarian, she had exhibitions showing the lives and deaths of cows, hens, chickens and pigs. She became a vegan in 1993 and continues to campaign and be a voice for animals.

Following the traumatic experience of being raped in 1990 in Johannesburg, her recovery was helped through great support from a few friends. She continued her photographic career but needed distance from her attack and left South Africa for the UK in 1993. She worked here as a freelance press photographer, until she became ill with ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). After 3 years of not being able to work or move much, she found a course where she learned many techniques to help her recover and now lives a very energetic life.

Her lifestyle is vegan, and she now works as a companion animal behaviourist helping dogs and cats be more understood and live more harmonious lives with their families.Vicky also started stammering as a young adult and although she struggled with this for many years, after a few speech therapy courses she is now a Toastmaster and enjoys giving school talks.

#008 Tragedy, Trust and Triumph With Celia Peachey

1h 17m · Published 22 Nov 16:41

Celia Peachey is an entrepreneur, life transformation coach, inspirational speaker, artist, activist and alchemist. Celia’s core belief is that when you transform yourself, you transform the world.

What was the catalyst for her transformation?

In 2008, her mother, Maria Stubbings, was brutally murdered by her ex-partner who had a history of violence and domestic abuse, having murdered a former girlfriend whilst living in Germany. Since then Celia has been actively campaigning.

Whilst her Mum was being bullied and in fear for her life, Celia was trying to piece her life together from a troubled and challenging youth & create something she could enjoy and be proud of.

She decided to attend a 10 day silent meditation retreat, no phones and no contact with the outside world. Something took her there, call it desperation or divine inspiration. The timing of that retreat and the Vipassana meditation practice itself, she claims are part of the reasons why she is alive today.

Celia is known for her activism, she is a keen conscious agent for cultural change, In the area of peace and human rights she is a now a key voice for Safe Lives, a facilitator for the Centre of Peaceful Solutions and a committee member and key ambassador for Amnesty International.

She is a key voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, has addressed both Houses of Parliament, has ongoing work with the Duchess of Cornwall and spoken most recently at (WOW), World of the Festival 2019.

Cultural change is her passion, she works closely with various organisations and charities, using her to voice to create positive change.

She has come to understand that, with the right attitude, conflict can be the source of positive change, when we are equipped to articulate our needs with clarity, coherence and compassion, we can truly make a stand for who we are and what we believe in; meaning we will not only find our needs being met, but we will create the ripple effect we were born to create.
