This is our second episode in the Epstein series. We invited attorney Bradley Edwards to talk with us about his book Relentless Pursuit: My fight for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein. Due to scheduling issues, Brad has not been able to speak with us yet. However, in this episode Shaunestte and Producer Jaime briefly talk about the unique perspective of this case that Brad provides with his book.

We will bring you Brad’s interview at a later date and encourage you to read his book and send us any questions you would like to ask him about his involvement in this case.

Serial Predator Jeffrey Epstein

Tune in to this first in a series of episodes about the legal battle against serial sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein. Shaunestte and Producer Jaime will talk about who Epstein was and discuss the events that led to James Patterson’s book Filthy Rich: The Jeffrey Epstein Story, attorney Bradley Edwards’ Book Relentless Pursuit: My fight for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, and the Netflix documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, which was based on James Patterson’s book.

This episode will serve as background information for listeners to prepare for our following episodes which include a discussion with Bradley Edwards who represented more than 20 women in civil sexual abuse litigation against Epstein, and another discussion with additional people close to this case.

Why Therapy Is Important for Survivors

Shaunestte talks with clinical psychologist Dr. Lisa Elwood about the effects sexual trauma has on the mental health of sexual abuse survivors. They discuss how therapy can help people struggling with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and negative behaviors that can arise as a result of sexual trauma. Dr. Elwood explains the different types of therapy to consider along with some advice on how to select a mental health professional to help survivors on their path to healing.

Dr. Lisa Elwood is an assistant professor for the University of Indianapolis College of Applied Behavioral Sciences and a licensed psychologist. Her research is centered on PTSD and additional reactions following traumatic experiences.

Sexual Assault Examinations

Shaunestte will be talking with Barbra Bachmeier, JD, MSN, APRN. Barbra is a nurse as well as an attorney. Her nursing practice is focused on in emergency and forensic care while her legal practice is centered on guardianship, Guardian Ad Litem work, personal injury, and domestic violence/sexual assault. Barbra is also a retired U.S. Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel.

This interview will be focused on the medical examination that takes place when a person who has been sexually assaulted arrives at a medical facility. Shaunestte and Barbra will discuss the purpose of the exam as well as general procedures that sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) follow to gather evidence that will assist law enforcement as well as provide after-care resources for the patient.

Eric shares his story which includes his struggle with addiction issues and how therapy is helping him deal with the trauma he suffered.

Eric’s story is published in two parts. This is the second part of this discussion which covers the perspective of being a Black male survivor of sexual abuse as well as the work he is doing with Prevail, an organization dedicated to serving victims of violence and abuse, to help others who are struggling with issues related to sexual abuse.

How Jenny's Law Helps Survivors

Shaunestte talks with Indiana State Senator Michael Crider about the work that went into the creation and adoption of Jenny’s Law and how that legislation helps sexual assault survivors. They also discuss the role of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) and the important function they serve in conducting sexual assault exams and collecting evidence so perpetrators of sexual violence can be held accountable for their actions in court.

Michael Crider has served the Indiana State Senate District 28 since 2012 and is currently running for reelection. More information about Senator Crider can be found here.

Ashley Klein Running for Office and Protecting Children

Shaunestte will be talking with Ashley Klein a candidate for Indiana House of Representatives District 39. They will discuss Ms. Klein’s “future focused” campaign and her desire to protect children as well as increase resources for education and build a stronger community.

Ashley Klein is an experienced servant leader who developed a passion for community through serving as an intern in the Indiana House of Representatives as well as a fundraiser for the United Way of Central Indiana that serves tens of thousands of Hoosiers through a variety of community-based programs.
