Dungeons & Dragons and Atoms

45m · Published 10 Jul 08:00

On today’s episode of TMWYK, we’re talking Dungeons and Dragons. DnD is one of the most popular RPG games worldwide. We’ll dive into how the game is played, some general mechanics of getting through an adventure, and touch on some controversies that came about because the media seems to have always thought that games create violence.

And then, we're going small, as small as you can go and venturing into Atoms. First we'll talk about a brief history of the idea of atoms, then we'll scale them up to the size of the earth to get a sense of just how big they are. We can't leave out Einstein's famous E=MC^2, the results of which have literally changed our world. For the better? You decide. Then we'll close it out by talking about some famous Adams, like Sandler, West, and Scott. Welcome to Tell Me What You Know.

Blockbuster and Termites

44m · Published 26 Jun 08:00

On today’s episode of TMWYK, we’re starting off the show with a trip down memory lane. There truly was nothing better in childhood than swinging by Blockbuster to pick up a movie on a Friday night. The movie rental giant ruled the home video world for about two decades. Sadly, it paid the ultimate late fee by failing to adjust to modern times.

And then, we're going to see what wood tastes like and look at termites, one of the earth's most successful insects. These 6 legged creatures are in the same family as cockroaches but unlike their sister-species they exist inside a colony with a caste system similar to ants but their parents don't require a dowry. These little pests are known to ruin your porch or roof but we'll learn that they actually play a vital role in the ecosystem. Stick around to hear how they fend off ant raids and all the animals that like to call them dinner. This is Tell Me What You Know.

Pet Rock and The Pyramids of Giza

40m · Published 19 Jun 08:00

On today’s episode of TMWYK, we’re talking about pet rocks. We learn about Gary Dahl, the freelance advertising copywriter from California who thought up the while joking around in a bar with friends. That joke earned Dahl more than a million bucks. Like the pet rock, other fads have made their mark on history as well as on the wallets of their creators. We’ll wrap up the first half of the show discussing some of these, like tamagotchis, pogs, and beanie babies.

And then, we're talking Pyramids. The pyramids are one the seven wonders of the world and have astounded tourists for millennia. Still to this day there are controversies over how they were built and why. One thing is for sure they are technically achievements. You couldn't slip a piece of paper between the stones, some of which weigh 80 tonnes and they are aligned perfectly to true north. There can be only one answer and we all know what it is. Aliens. Welcome to another conspiracy episode of Tell Me What You Know.

Elevators and Babe Ruth

1h 2m · Published 12 Jun 08:00

On today’s episode of Tell Me What You Know, we aim to get a rise out of our audience with a little elevator talk. We’ll start the conversation off with a little history, change floors quickly for elevator facts, then move on up to the penthouse for a discussion on some of the most unique elevators in the world. Finally, we’ll get into what you should do should you be trapped in an elevator. Hopefully this episode isn’t a let down.

And then, “The Sultan of Swat”, “The King of Crash”, “The Great Bambino”. Yes, we’re talking about Yankee slugger and American hero, Babe Ruth. Why was his name Babe? It’s actually George. How did he get all those nicknames? Did he actually call his shot to center field in the 1932 World Series? Well folks, when the legend becomes fact, print the legend. Stick around to hear all about this American icon on Tell Me What You Know.

Skull & Bones and Being Stranded

1h 0m · Published 05 Jun 08:00

On today's episode of TMWYK, we're talking about the Skull and Bones, and I don't mean the Jolly Roger. This Order at Yale is a secret society for the rich and powerful. We'll cover the founding of the group along with some of its history, and then jump into the rumor mill for some conspiracy talk. We'll fill in the gaps for Joshua Jackson and Paul Walker.

And then, Hello? Can you hear me? SOS. Yes, we're stranded. We're gonna tell you about some famous survival stories from people marooned on an island, trapped at sea, and circumstances that drive you to eat your frozen best friend. If Michael #1 and I are stranded I'm eating his calf with a side of fava beans and a nice chianti. This is Tell Me What You Know!

Cryonics and Virtual Reality

56m · Published 29 May 08:00

On today’s episode of TMWYK, we ponder death and what comes after. Maybe you’ve thought about what you want done with your body once you pass to the other side. Perhaps cremation, or a classic six-feet-under situation. How about cryonics? That’s what we’re talking about today. Freeze yourself in time and cross your fingers that science advances enough to reanimate you at some point in the future.

And then, we’re taking the red pill and venturing down the rabbit hole into virtual reality. The dream of putting ourselves into a computer program has been around a long time. Early devices that mimicked depth were made as far back as the 1830’s. Fastforward to today and we’re using computers and headsets the size of ski goggles to make all your wildest dreams, and I’m sure fantasies, come true. Pinch yourself. This is not a simulation.

Cults and Currency

1h 5m · Published 22 May 08:00

On today’s episode of TMWYK we’re talking cults. We’re discussing destructive cults, doomsday cults, polygamist cults -- you name it, we’re talking about it. Drink the kool-aid and indoctrinate yourself into the Tell Me What You Know Cult by listening to all of our very smart and very correct opinions.

And then, ca-ching ca-ching, we’re talking currencies. AKA money, moolah, cheddar or smackers. This stuff makes the world go round. What might be worth 20 cents in the dollar could be worth 100 million billion Pengo in Hungary. The first currency started in China and was made out of small replica tools. Russia also got into the currency trend by using squirrel pelts I’m sure it was fun making change by chopping off a paw or an ear. In our modern day, we’ve moved onto digital coins and I’m here to offer you our new coin called Tell Me What you Know.

Bull Fighting and The U.S. Highway System

42m · Published 15 May 08:00

On this episode of TMWYK, we’re grabbing the proverbial toro by the horns and discussing the topic of bullfighting. Artistic expression of a region’s culture, or barbaric, sadistic torture of animals? You be the judge. Learn about the Spanish Fighting Bull, the three different acts of a Spanish-Style corrida, and the matador and his team that carry out the event. Olé.

And then, we’re heading out on America’s Interstate Highway System. This group of roads spans more than 40,000 miles and took over 60 years to complete. The longest stretch is I-90 spanning from Boston, Massachusetts to Seattle, Washington. Learn about these systems are numbered so if you’re ever caught without your phone or a map, you could find your way home. Heads up, take this exit for Tell Me What You Know.

Killer Bees and IQ

47m · Published 08 May 08:00
On this episode of Tell Me What You Know, we’re getting buzzed off a cold six-pack of Killer Bee knowledge. The Africanized Honeybee, AKA Killer Bee, likes to swarm and sting more than their docile cousins. We talk about how this hybrid Apis made its way to the USA, and dive into whether or not these insects are as deadly and dangerous as they have been made out to be. Where does their sting rank on the Pain Scale, created by the King of Sting himself? You’ll have to listen to find out. And then, we’re talking about our Intelligence Quotients, and if you wicked smart you’ll know we’re talking about IQ. This standardized measurement compares your intelligence against all the other test participants,. An IQ of 100 doesn’t mean you anything other than you are perfectly average. People with IQs in the top 2% of the population can join the organization Mensa which makes them Mensans which I think shows exactly how smart they are. Me and Michael aren’t Mensans and you probably aren’t either because you’re listening to Tell Me What You Know.
