On Monday, August 10th as I'm sharing this episode with you all, Adam Wolfe is kicking off his 100-mile week of running - but there's a lot more to it than just the miles.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
In this episode, he shares more about this project, among other things. The plan: to run 2 runs each day, each time with someone in his life who's really important to him. Afterwards, they'll sit down and have an open and vulnerable conversation.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
In a lot of different ways, coming together safely through the joy of running is a great way of celebrating community and that love of running during the separated times that weβre in, no matter the pace or distance. And, we talk about the immense privilege we have in stepping out the door and approaching these runs with able bodies.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
Adam is deeply thoughtful, and I hope that you'll enjoy listening to our conversation.

Christina Platt just really, really likes walking. She's a reformed "techy", Appalachian Trail hiker, and now, she's a Wilderness Specialist for the National Forest Service and Wilderness Preservation System in the Monongahela National Forest, in WV. Also, she's just a really genuine human being.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
She's got a lot of knowledge to share from her experiences. Today, Christina gives a crash course on public lands. She also explains a bit about her incredible job and the responsibility of using data to measure the success of preservation in wilderness areas. We talk about outdoor spaces and how our country's policies and people have made efforts, and are currently working, to preserve them. (And she gives a lot of great life advice, too!)

Sean Farahani is choosing not to be silent. Channeling his frustration and pain in the midst of systemic inequality and violence against BIPOC in the US, heβs using his abilities to speak up.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
Every day in June, he is running to raise awareness for the issues woven into our society and raise money for ACLU, an organization that demands accountability and justice.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
In our conversation, we talk about the importance of reflecting and educating ourselves. And the power of speaking up and acting out, in addition to supporting the voices of others and the broader organizations that are working to create systems change.

If you've ever spoken with Mike Walwro, you might have an idea of what this conversation today is like. He finds adventure in everything. He is passionate about what he cares about. He cares deeply for others. And he really, really - REALLY - likes running.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
On May 31st, he'll be doing the FKT FTK. His goal is to do a 50-kilometer solo race on the Ghost Town Trail, a trail close to his home in central PA, to raise money to fight pediatric cancer. But, there's more: he's planning to break the record, and get the Fastest Known Time - 3:46:30 (7:17/mile). And, it's uphill.
βββββββββββββββββββββ
Today, he shares some of his story. Taking those first steps towards trying new things, and the specific decisions that led him to be who he is today, is one thing that we talk about. Also, he shares more about his FKT FTK, why he feels inspired to raise money for pediatric cancer, and his fear of not chasing his own crazy ideas. And, we share some memories and pretty good laughs throughout it all.

Mike is a gritty, jack-of-all-distances, all-around genuine human being. I hope that you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Welcome back to Trailblazer. On this podcast, I try to share conversations with some pretty incredible people who have committed to using their love for the outdoors to advocate for a better world.
βββββββββββββββββββ
Sam Lapp graduated in 2019 with his master's degree is Engineering Design from Penn State University, and is also a talented musician. He's explored ways to combine his expertise in these areas with his love for nature and the outdoors, and he's found intersections of sound, math and computer science, and conservation to affect change on the natural world, and it's so inspiring.
βββββββββββββββββββ
He shares about his experiences as a field researcher, camping in National Parks for Leave No Trace, a conservancy organization. His current position, helping computers recognize bird sounds to monitor populations, in Pittsburgh, is another way that heβs combined his love for sound, data, and nature. Lastly, he shares about his music project he co-created called "Suna Ansuna", which brings local musicians into natural spaces to share music while also bringing awareness to the story of the location and its conservation efforts.
βββββββββββββββββββ
Samβs humility, wisdom, and understanding of how each person can make a difference in the world is powerful. I hope that you'll enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
