New podcast preview and interview with Levity Farms

1h 1m · Published 08 Sep 10:00
Throughout the summer, we are developing a brand new podcast with a new name and a new sound that will launch in late summer. In the meantime, we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. This week, we’ll hear from a Georgia farmer in a conversation that was part of our Georgia on My Plate series of stories in 2021. Where does your food come from? Sure, ultimately, you might be getting it from a grocery store or maybe even a farmer’s market, but before it gets there, someone had to cultivate it, grow it, get it ready for that market. Last year, the AJC took a look at some of the Georgia folks providing our food with the Georgia on My Plate series. On this week’s podcast, we’ll revisit a conversation food, dining and Living editor Ligaya Figueras had with Ilana Richards of Levity Farms in Madison. Our new podcast preview and the “Dictionary of Southern Appalachian English”

In the meantime, we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. This week, we’ll talk about the “Dictionary of Southern Appalachian English.” When Jennifer K.N. Heinmiller inherited the million-word project that would become the “Dictionary of Southern Appalachian English,” its principal author had blown past several deadlines, lost his publisher and then died. The dictionary was a unique but expensive undertaking. It represented 85 years of research that would eventually produce a 1,225-page volume weighing about 12 pounds. Bo Emerson spoke with Heinmiller about the dictionary and he’ll bring us that conversation. Find it atajc.com/podcastsand at the Apple Podcast store. The Atlanta musical phenomenon Yacht Rock Revue

Throughout the summer, we are developing a brand new podcast with a new name and a new sound that will launch in late summer. In the meantime, we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. This week, we’ll hear from some of the guys from the Atlanta musical phenomenon Yacht Rock Revue. It all started with a theme night back in 2007, when some local musicians turned a compilation of soft-rock hits into a set list at 10 High in the basement of the Dark Horse Tavern. But nobody on stage had any idea this was the genesis of what would become Yacht Rock Revue, and that 14 years later, seven of the musicians from that 10 High gig would play many of those same songs in front of 6,000 cheering fans at Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park (and they’re playing there again this weekend, on Aug. 26 and 27). Rodney Ho has written about the band and he spoke with some of the band members about their unexpected career in late 2021. Find the conversation atajc.com/podcastsand at the Apple Podcast store. New podcast preview and interview with Chuck Leavell from November 2021

51m · Published 18 Aug 10:00
Throughout the summer, we are developing a brand new podcast with a new name and a new sound that will launch in late summer. In the meantime, we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. This week, we’ll hear an interview with Chuck Leavell from November 2021. As the de facto music director of The Rolling Stones during the last 40 years of touring, Georgian Leavell not only handled keyboard duties, he frequently took charge of the music on stage, as a sort of conductor. In performance he kept in eye contact with the late Charlie Watts, since any signal by the music director has to be telegraphed by the drummer. They had a unique relationship and the loss of the legendary drummer hit him hard. But the show goes on and The Rolling Stones, and Leavell, performed at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Nov. 11, 2021. Bo Emerson spoke with Leavell about the Stones and about his tree-farming life just outside of Macon and we’ll hear that conversation on this week’s podcast.
