23m · Published 15 Oct 09:34

This episode is about how you can guarantee a steady income while being a freelance teacher, how to plan your budget and deal with cancelled classes. I invited Alina Plotnikova to share her experience with us.

Alina says becoming a freelancer was a real game-changer for her. Working for a school meant being overloaded and underpaid and not being able to choose your clients. Alina likes working with students who have clear language goals and stay motivated for long term work and are ready to bring some changes to their life by means of English.

In the middle of the episode, Alina shares her multi-step process of choosing her students before signing contracts with them. She also makes sure that they are ready to commit to long term studying process and understand how much they need to work.

Before starting teaching her clients Alina provides them with information about how many classes her clients may reschedule and agrees about several planned breaks during the studying period.

At the end of the episode, I asked Alina to share her tips for teachers who don’t have the courage to quit their work at school and become self-employed and the tips Alina shared are really worth being heard!

You can find Alina’s blog on Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/alina._.plotnikova/ Follow Alina because she shares very interesting things about learning processes and what stumbling blocks students might have and how to overcome them. Alina is learning psychology now so she also shares a lot of interesting thoughts about how psychological issues influence the learning process. "Your Way to Freedom" is a podcast for language teachers who dream about a freelance career but have no courage to dive into this wonderful world of opportunities and choices.

There are so many reasons that can stop us from quitting school. We may think that in spite of getting low salaries and working long hours, the school guarantees you stability. Sometimes we doubt our ability to work without guidance from a principal or a DoS, without a syllabus or a coursebook chosen for us and our students. We may even feel compassionate towards school boys and girls and continue serving them and draining our energy.

However, if you are listening to this podcast you might have thought about changing your career for the better. I don’t want to push you hard because faster doesn’t mean better. However, I hope to inspire you and to share some tips toward a better career as a freelance teacher that often brings joy, gratitude, creativity, fulfilment and money to your life.

My name is Vera and I’ve been freelance teaching for more than 10 years now. I had my ups and downs, analyzed my pitfalls and learned many lessons. I want to share my experience and knowledge with you to help you walk through this way painlessly. In this podcast, I will also be interviewing teachers who managed to quit schools and built their way to freedom and success. There must be a story that you can relate to so I hope you´ll find your inspiration and start taking your first steps.
