Each month, WAWH Executive Director and Founder Sara Finger gives listeners at peek at three key policy issues impacting women's wellbeing, a closer look at an important policy with special guests, and a focus forward with quick and easy opportunities to make a difference right away.

A Closer Look at Studying the Impact of Policies with Dr. Jenny Higgins

In this final episode of Wide Awake in Wisconsin, Sara takes a closer look into the three Special Legislative Sessions Governor Evers called to address important issues and how the GOP leadership failed to take up and discuss gun violence, voting safely, and police brutality.

Next, Sara talks with Jenny Higgins, PhD, Director of the new UW CORE - Collaborative for Reproductive Equity. Dr. Higgins tells listeners about the multitude of studies they are conducting to inform policies and programs so that all Wisconsin residents and families may live with reproductive autonomy.

Sara then takes a focus forward on enuring our votes and voices are heard through the ballot this year.

A Closer Look at this Moment in the Movement for Black Lives

In this episode, Sara sits down with 4 Black women to discuss this moment in the overall Movement for Black Lives.  After the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, and Rayshard Brooks, we find ourselves in moment of uprising and movement yet again.  We find ourselves calling for deep change in our society and with more momentum and longevity than we've seen in a long time.

First, Sara sits down with podcast producer Bria Brown.  Bria lost her own brother to police violence in 2013 and discusses that loss, the importance of understanding how you are positioned in the US and in the world and the importance of doing the deep life work of contributing to and engaging in a principled struggle.

Next, Sara sits down with Lisa Peyton-Care, Founding CEO and President of the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness and her two daughters to discuss this moment, what the want from white warriors, and more.

A Closer Look at COVID-19 in Wisconsin w/ Healthcare Workers

In this episode of Wide Awake in Wisconsin, Sara sits down with multiple healthcare providers on the front lines of COVID19 to give us a glimpse on what life and work has been like as the pandemic unfolds in Wisconsin and worldwide.

Sara sits down with healthcare providers Dr. Amanda Schmehil, Dr. Emily Buttigieg, Kathy Rozema, Dr. Jasmine Zapata, and Michelle Watkins to discuss how the pandemic has affected their work in clinics and hospitals and their advice for the public.

Next, Sara sits down with prominent Public Health advocate, Dr. Pat Remington and Shauntay Nelson of All Voting is Local to take a closer look at Wisconsin's decision to hold the April election during the rise of the COVID-19 outbreak. She also encourages listeners to request their absentee ballots now for the August 11th and November 3rd elections.

A Closer Look at Maternal & Child Health w/ Tia Murray

In this episode of Wide Awake in Wisconsin, we are faced with a very different reality than we’ve previously known and Sara takes this time to discuss Governor Evers’ response to the coronavirus outbreak. In the Peek at Policy, Sara takes a look at policies that the State Legislature could take up and pass in a special session to provide some much needed help at this time. Policies like Medicaid Expansion and approval of some important Medicaid waivers. 

Next, Sara sits down with Tia Murray with Harambee Village Doulas to discuss Black Maternal & Child Health in Wisconsin and recognize the third annual Black Maternal Health Week beginning on April 11th.

Sara also reminds people to complete their census and to vote in the April 7th election!
