Talking Dad

In this episode Sam Jones joins me to discuss the kids going back to school and his daughter starting school in reception for the first time. Back to school uniform, shoes, how Sam's daughter starting school will differ from when his son (6) started during the pandemic restrictions. We discuss how school has been going for both our boys now 6 and going into year 2, we Dad chat about the school holidays and what we have been doing along with time spent with family & holidays away. 

We briefly look ahead to the Autumn & Winter months / schedule as Sam is preparing to record another Christmas single - Yes we did mention that ' C ' word in September but we save the rest of that chat for another episode.

Welcome back to another episode of Talking Dad uk - The podcast where we discuss all things Dad & the second instalment of Trading Dad stories where i team up with Rob Jones on a regular basis to ' trade some Dad stories ' or have a Dad chat about recent happenings for each of our families. 

In this episode we discuss the 3 kid chat, i currently have 2 boys and with that is always the conversation of ' are you going to try again for a girl? ' Rob however already has 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl so we discuss a little about how things might be different going from 2 to 3 and how that particular conversation might differ from each couple / relationship.  

This conversation then moves us onto another hot topic at the moment and one that stereotypically is definitely a Dad chat & that's just how expensive everything has become and the current ' cost of living crisis ' Again we cant offer all of the solutions and as is usual we tackle these issues and conversations with an err of humour but understand this topic could be a worrying one for many people and families. In this episode author Dawn M Barclay talks about her upcoming book which is due for release August 2022 - Traveling different: Vacation strategies for parents of the anxious, the inflexible, and the neurodiverse. The travel bible for parents of children with Autism spectrum disorder and / or mood and distraction disorders, offering helpful tips to soothe any child's travel anxieties.  

Dawn also talks about her love for travel having grown up with her parents working in the travel industry and eventually working within it herself.

Talking dad uk - The podcast where we discuss all things dad.

In this episode i talk to Dan Flanagan, founder of Dad La Soul and Tot Rocking Beats which are dad groups tackling the social isolation of dads and kids. Located on the UK's south coast in Worthing but with plans of introducing nationally. Dan also shares his fatherhood story and where the idea of creating a non profit organisation based around dad and kid groups came from and how others might be able to do something similar or find out about a dad group that may be available locally to attend.

At the beginning of this episode i also share that the podcast will take a short break in June 2022 - Coinciding with a family holiday and the revision of the podcast episode format. I will still be active on social media and likely be recording but releasing and promoting will slow down.

In this episode i speak to Paul who along with his wife Emily set up the Parent guide to GCSE, helping parents and teens with revision & exam preparations. 

Paul begins by telling me about his fatherhood journey having now 20 year old twin boys and also a 13 year old daughter. Paul was a stay at home dad when his twins were babies before retraining and working as a teacher at a secondary school. We chat about the challenges and rewards in Pauls experience during his time in teaching. How and why he and wife Emily decided to leave teaching and set up the parents guide to GCSE. Paul has a passion for mentoring and tutoring post 16 and also the UCAS application process for university. Parent guide to GCSE offers a membership service, free consultations, revision resources and a Facebook community of parents supporting each other in helping their teens through revision and exam preparation.

Towards the end of our chat I also get Paul's top tips for helping your child in their exam preparation.
