Tayla Stone - Life as a Paraplegic

In 2010 Tayla Stone's life was flipped upside down following a dirt bike accident which left her paralysed and a future as a T12 incomplete paraplegic. Her whole life changed in an instant.  Then in 2015, Tayla lost one of her strongest supporters - her Mother.  Tayla's first hand experience of hardship and challenges have enabled her to draw on her inner strength and to design a life of purpose.  She continues to train her body physically, and to build up her strength.  Whilst she says she expects nothing from her future, she gives life her all and focusses on seeing the good with the not-so-good.
 
Some key quotes from our conversation include:
  • So what, I'm a paraplegic.  It doesn't mean anything.  Things could be a lot worse(8:05)
  • One day I just woke up and thought, 'just get over yourself' basically (8:10)
  • I'm just trying to see the good in it, to see the funny side with being paralysed (8:42)
  • Having that sense of humour helped heaps, because it wasn't all doom and gloom (9:47)
  • There are limitations, but there are always limitations, no matter what in life (12:17)
  • Because you are paralysed, you can't do this, you can't do that...so I was already telling myself I can't do those things, but really, I can... (12:52)
  • It's focusing in on what you can do, and not putting limitations on yourself (13:27)
  • As soon as something bad happens to you, your brain automatically goes straight to the negative side (14:02)
  • Try not to get buried in that negative hole (14:19)
  • The doctor sat down and told me that I had 5% chance to walk again ( 16:45)
  • I hated everything at the time (17:00)
  • A couple of years later, it just clicked.  I woke up one morning and thought what was the point about being depressed about it? (17:41)
  • Well maybe I'm just going to live a positive life, but be thankful I had a second chance at it. ( 18:20)  
  • I could sit there for the rest of my life, and always focus on that, but by doing that I'm not actually moving on with my new life (18:53) 
  • If you just keep going, and you don't focus on the negative things, the positive things just come naturally. ( 20:08)

Lana Jelenjev - Living a Self-full Life

Lana Jelenjev was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. And after almost 2 years of treatment, she took time to reconnect with herself and her mission. It was during this time that she realised how it is our responsibility to be SELF-FULL. Because when we are selfish, we have no room to meet the needs of others, and when we are selfless, we fail to meet our own needs. But when we are self-full that’s when magic happens.

Lana is the co founder of She Dares, a website and group of curious women exploring the science, myths, taboos and possibilities surrounding a modern women and why they should invest and prioritise in her personal stack of gold.
As a child Lana loved writing poetry and have different diaries and notebooks where she scribbled her thoughts. "I find it alarming if I cannot find a pen and paper next to me, for those 'just in case I have a brilliant idea' moments" she says.

Naresh Kumar - The Ride for Freedom

Born and raised in a suburb of Chennai in South India, Naresh Kumar has always dreamt big, something which ore often seemed ludicrous and completely unattainable. Today, he lives an amazing action packed life and is dedicated to helping other.  He is a living example of kindness, and how our circumstances DO NOT need to confine us.  His most recent adventure was to cycle the entire length of New Zealand (3,000kms!) on a tandem bike raising money and awareness of human trafficking.  His main message - 'No matter what your dreams ar - he are possible!.

  • Life was a big survival - even from the beginning, growing up in poor conditions, and everything was a big challenge (1:35)
  • Freedom - 27 million people in this world don't have that.  The highest form of living is freedom and they don't have it (6:08)
  • When people go there, they should treat them as humans and not a commodity (7:40)
  • A challenge can't be a real challenge unless there is a possibility of failure (11:40)

Christine Morris - Navigating the Fires of Life

In 2014, life seemed incredible for Christine Morris.  Her business was thriving, and life was going just how she had planned it.  But in an instant, that all changed when her house was burnt to the ground.  She and her family lost everything!  

The months following this tragedy became a time of reflection for her and, rather than looking at this loss as a setback, she chose to use the lessons she learned through her journey to help even more entrepreneurs create a fabulously balanced life.

Virginia Phillips - Triumphing after Trauma

In 2012 Virginia Phillips survived a very traumatic car accident.  Seated behind the driver, a truck crashed into the side of their car where Virginia was sitting and unfortunately, she took a lot of the impact.  Her entire left side was crushed, including her hip, chest and lung, and she has been left with many long lasting effects.  Four years on from this devastating event, and after being diagnosed as 100% disabled, Virginia is using her experiences to help others.  She is currently writing a book, and not only that, she is actively helping families to experience financial freedom by teaching them effective ways to get out of debt.  

 
"Every day is a gift but all too often we are too busy doing daily tasks to use that time for something worthy of highlighting years later. Typically, this only changes if we have a sense of urgency due to age or medical reasons yet the desire to leave our mark has been there."

Tami J Woodham - From Paralysis to Detox to Vitality

Tami J Woodham suddenly lost the use of both her arms and legs due to suspected MS (Multiple Sclerosis).  And through food, she has been able to heal herself and help others to do the same.  

Today she shares how detoxing, raw food and a change to lifestyle enabled her health to turn around and how it sparked her mission to help others live healthy lives too.  Her passion is helping others to improve their health by getting confident in their own body and mind, and to understand how raw foods and lifestyle changes can have a positive effect on our health and happiness.  Alongside her husband Luke, she runs raw food workshops, transition and fasting programs, events and retreats, and private coaching.

Trudi Pavlovsky - Suicide, Addiction and Steps to Success

Our guest today is Trudi Pavlovsky -  a truly creative woman on a mission to support everyday people to share to their message and skills at the highest level possible.   
 
She shares some of the profound experiences that she has been though in life, from abuse and rape to drug addiction and suicide attempts before changing her pathway, and using these experiences to create a positive life that she loves, and where she is able to help others.
 
In 2008, after successfully climbing the corporate ladder, she realised that she didn't like the view from the top, so took on a new path that aligned with her dreams and passion.  Today, Trudi has her own coaching business, and supports others in getting their message out via online courses and mind management processes.
 
Trudi is based in Melbourne Australia.  She loves dancing, and her 3 fur babies Kitten, Toya and Speed Panda :)

Medyhne Lebachen - Death, Divorce and Creating Community

Medyhne Lebachen is meditation and lifestyle guru focused on having an abundant and joy-filled existence, and helping others to do the same.  She's had a fair share of challenges, including the stillbirth of her third child, a divorce, and the losses of others close to her, however it has been through these difficult times that she has focused in on being present in her life, choosing positive behaviours, and designing out her best future.  Today she helps many others by passing on the skills and lessons she has learnt through those harder times.  Medyhne also runs Parents after Kids (www.parentsafterkids.com) which is a highly interactive and supportive Facebook Group for all types of parents in different parenting situations (from being happily married to separated or divorced, step parents, parents with kids leaving home...).

Sage Andreasen - From Hashimoto's to Healthy and Happy

Our guest today is Sage Andreasen, a Sydney based Acupuncturist with a love to inspire others to follow their dreams and to live a healthy and happy life.  Following many years of illness and unexplained fatigue, Sage was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease in 2009, and has since tuned into her body, its needs and her ability to design herself a healthy future.  Her efforts involved consciously choosing her pathway, and starting many areas of her life from scratch again.  

Today, she feels great in her body, is positive about her future, and runs a successful fertility focused acupuncture clinic.  Her love for babies and new life are what fuels and excites her passion.

Our guest today is Gina Van Luven, an international wellness speaker, author and Board Certified Health Coach. For over a decade, she has been working with a wide variety of clients from CEOs and top executives to stay-at- home moms and dads, guiding them to live healthier, happier lives.

Having experienced a very difficult childhood, she was plagued by disease and her life was out of balance. In her early thirties, she discovered the tools that transformed her diseased, imbalanced body into a healthy, happy one. Today, she helps others do the same through her empowering programs.

Some of her books include “I’d Rather Scrub Toilets than Cook – Tips to Getting In and Out of the Kitchen Quickly” and “Nutrition for Success – How to Maximize Performance in All Areas of Life.” She has been seen on ABC, PCTV and heard on several radio stations across the globe.
