Your Next Listen - from Dave Cawley

15m · Published 16 Apr 12:00

A personal note from COLD host Dave Cawley: I can’t thank you enough for listening to COLD. We’re between seasons right now, but I’m dropping into the feed to let you know about a podcast you might like.

It’s the brand-new second season of The Letter, a show from my friend and colleague Amy Donaldson. Season 2 of The Letter is called “Ripple Effect.” It’s about a bizarre double murder back in 1982, where a restaurant manager and a laundry truck driver were both shot to death. The killer was quickly caught, but his story didn’t make sense to police or to the families of the men he killed. And without spoiling it, I can tell you there are some major twists.

I’ve watched and listened as Amy and co-writer Andrea Smardon have weaved candid, emotional stories about families affected by violence in both seasons of The Letter. They do true crime differently, getting in deep with the people whose lives are upended. In The Letter season 2, they explore how grief, anger, remorse, and forgiveness can even ripple outward across generations. It’s an impactful listen.

Please give The Letter season 2: Ripple Effect a try. You can find the show here or at theletterpodcast.com.

Introducing: Stranger Becomes Neighbor

12m · Published 15 Aug 08:00

Hey, COLD host Dave Cawley writing here. I’ve been listening to a new podcast called Stranger Becomes Neighbor - Afghan Arrivals. I’m excited to tell you about it, and I hope you’ll give it a listen. The story begins two years ago, when the U.S. scrambled to evacuate refugees from the Kabul airport as the Taliban took over Afghanistan. Around 80,000 Afghans soon arrived in America at a time when the resettlement agencies were critically low on resources. For the last two years, my colleague, journalist and host Andrea Smardon has followed some of these refugees, as well as the everyday Americans who have found themselves helping our newest neighbors. Stranger Becomes Neighbor tells stories of rebuilding and resilience. It's available now. Search for and follow the show on Apple podcasts or anywhere you listen so you don’t miss an episode.

The Search For Sheree | Bonus: The Convenient Alternative | 14

1h 26m · Published 15 May 07:01

Ten years before Sheree Warren disappeared, another young mother vanished from her workplace in the suburbs of Ogden, Utah. Nancy Perry Baird’s case shares many similarities with Sheree Warren’s. Both were young mothers, recently divorced, working to support themselves. Police in both cases theorized a serial killer might be responsible. To this day, many of Nancy Baird's own relatives believe Ted Bundy abducted and killed her; a claim Bundy denied. COLD has obtained exclusive access to the Nancy Baird case files. In this bonus episode of COLD season 3, journalist and host Dave Cawley uncovers new evidence that illuminates Ted Bundy’s role in Nancy’s disappearance.

Season 3 of Cold includes descriptions of rape, sexual assault, murder and domestic violence. Please take care when listening.
