Hooray For North Hollywood!

1h 15m · Published 23 Mar 23:33

My guest today is a very good friend of mine, and I’m proud to say that. She is a crazily talented woman, I have been a fan since before I started in the business, one of the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players, Laraine Newman is here. Laraine has a new book out on Audible, called May You Live In Interesting Times. It is a memoir of not only her time on Saturday Night Live but her childhood growing up in LA in the 1960’s and her time after SNL. Struggling with her career, her identity, addiction, Laraine has met EVERYONE and recounts it all in her excellent and fascinating new book, May You Live In Interesting Times on Audible. Check it out and thank me later. https://DanaGould.com

Proops Positive!

1h 9m · Published 17 Feb 01:11

Happy February! We're in a month and half into 2021 and already I feel better. Vaccines are pouring forth like sap from a tree in winter and Trump escaped trying to get his own Vice President murdered. But as the wise man once said, pobody's nerfect!

To that end, I have summoned The Smartest Man In The World, Greg Proops to the show. Greg is a terrible terribly funny man and host of the eponymous podcast, The Smartest Man In The World. And together, we will try to make some sense of, as I like to say, "the modern scene."

Goin' Underground

My guest today is the very funny Amy Miller. In addition to being a hilarious comedian, Amy has an excellent podcast called Who’s Your God? In which people, many from comedy, discuss their religious beliefs or the lack thereof.

Quaran-Tidings To You

2h 12m · Published 23 Dec 01:38

Hello and Happy Holidays! I’ve got great news! 2020 is almost finished and we are going out in style. But really any exit would be enough, wouldn’t it? We have two incredible guests today, again, an old school episode to end the year. Anne Serling is with us. Anne is the daughter of none other than Rod Serling, he the creator of The Twilight Zone, The Night Gallery, screenwriter of requiem For A Heavyweight, Seven Days In May and that ape movie we’ve mentioned. She has two books out now for your holiday reading pleasure. The first is As I Knew Him, a very sweet and insightful story of growing up in the Serling household. It gives great insight to Rod and growing up in late '60s Southern California with a famous father who also happened to be a nice guy and a decent human being. I know! Hard to believe.

The other book is Night Gallery The Art Of Darkness which comes out next month, it is a large format coffee table book with beautiful full color illustrations with those famous paintings from the Night Gallery with essays about each episode. The book was curated by Scott Skelton and Jim Benson. Anne wrote the forward along with Guillermo Del Toro.

My other guest is the very talented and very funny, Grey De Lisle. Grey has been a pal of mine for too long than either one of us cares to discuss. You might not recognize her face, but you’ve heard her voice. In addition to being a very talented singer and comedian, Grey is one of he most successful voice over actresses in show business. She’s Daphne on Scooby Doo, she’s Catwoman, she’s on The Simpsons. Grey’s going to tell is about her storied career, nay marriages and stuff I’m too bashful to mention. All here for your listening pleasure.

And now… it’s on… to our filthy business.

Trick or treat! It’s that time of year everybody, and everyone is getting into the Halloween spirit. Everyone’s in a mask and the world itself is dressed up as it’s favorite scene from Contagion. But we will proceed, undaunted!

We have an excellent episode in store for you. Rob Zabrecky is here! You may know Rob from his previous role as the lead singer for Possum Dixon but he has since gone on to create Zabrecky, a magician of note and renown.

We also have Laurent Bouzerau. Laurent has directed, among other things, the excellent Natalie Wood documentary What Remains Behind currently on Netflix, The Richard Zanuck doc “Don’t Say No Until I Finish” and many others. He has just finished work archiving and curating, The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection, the brand new 4K Ultra HD combo pack which includes the UNCUT version of Psycho as well as restored prints of The Birds, Rear Window, and Vertigo.

Mask-A-Palooza

1h 34m · Published 05 Aug 23:11

Howdy! It's summertime! And you can tell, because we're all sitting around doing exactly what we did in the spring. But yes, our thoughts are starting to collectively turn to what we will do in the fall. And our prayers are that it won't be more of the same, but our sneaking suspicions are that it might be. And so that brings us up to date on our thoughts, prayers and sneaking suspicions.

But we do have a great show for you today. Formerly known as TV's Frank and Prof. Clayton Forrester, as well as the voice of Crow, now known as The Mads, Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu.

Thanks to Zoom, the new way we communicate, and hats off to all those people in Congress who were smart enough to invest in it just prior to the world knowing why we'd be needing it, we caught up with Frank in New York City and Trace in the wilds of the Minnesota woods.

We also have a True Tales from Weirdsville that starts with the mask debate and ends up in the movie Halloween II, so enjoy that.

All that, and so much more, for your pandemic listening. And so, with that, it's on to out filthy business.

Cruel, Cruel Summer

1h 55m · Published 14 Jul 23:32

It's a cruel, cruel summer as Banarama sang. Or as we called them, the banana rammers. Thank you! Winston Churchill once said, "You can always count on America to do the right thing after its exhausted every other option," and we are certainly taking that approach with the pandemic. And so, we continue to struggle through this mess. And who better to guide us through than The Bitter Buddha himself, Eddie Pepitone. Eddie has his own daily podcast called Live From The Bunker and a new special called For The Masses, which is outstanding. I know, I was at the taping. Of course, it was filmed back when you could do that sort of thing.

Although we are not going back to the old set up of the show we do have a second interview this episode. Chris Condon has an excellent graphic novel that just got released called That Texas Blood and talked to Chris about that.

So as I say, it's a cruel summer. But on we go. Hakuna Matada, all that. As Elvis Costello sang in one of my favorite songs, Tokyo Storm Warning, "We're only living this instant."

And so it's on…. to our filthy business.
