How Much Do We Need Our Friends?

25m · Published 31 Mar 19:13

To put it simply, our friendships are being tested. The relationships that were once so easy to start, nurture and maintain are being challenged by physical separation and digital fatigue. Considering how important these relationships are for fighting loneliness and contributing to longevity, many of us are grappling with how to preserve these relationships, and build new ones, during this very weird time.

HOST: Taylor Camille, Senior Producer at Well+Good

GUESTS:

Ann Friedman & Aminatou Sow, hosts of the ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ podcast and authors of ‘Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close’

Danielle Bayard Jackson, Friendship coach, educator and author

Clare O’Connor, head of editorial content at Bumble

WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT:

We fact checked with Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman and learned why they prefer the term big friendship instead of bff and how the loneliness epidemic is impacting our friendships

Danielle Bayard Jackson coached us on how to find and maintain friendships even in a pandemic

Clare O’Connor helped us realize we don't have to feel ashamed if we choose to swipe for friends and shared some stories to make us feel like we’re not alone

Is There a Right Way to Eat?

29m · Published 24 Mar 23:24

The amount of morality that’s attached to our diets and eating habits is unreal. Some foods are labelled good, while others are bad. The clean food movement implies that some foods are dirty. And we’ve been told that the way we eat has a huge impact on everything from not just our physical health, but our mental health, our long-term health prospect, and even our immunity. Layer on top of that the prevalence and popularity of highly restrictive diets like Keto, F Factor and Paleo, and it’s actually no wonder that so many people are caught up about food and how we should be eating. How did something that’s supposed to be enjoyable get so confusing, hard and strained?

HOST: Kate Spies, SVP+ General Manager at Well+Good

GUESTS:

Christy Harrison, MPH RD CEDRD, author and host of Food Psych Podcast

Shana Minei Spence, MS, RDN, CDN, a self-labeled “eat anything” dietician

Anna Sweeney, MS, RDN, CEDRD-S, Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietician & Supervisor, Intuitive Eating Counselor

WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT:

Check out Christy Harrison’s book, Anti Diet and follow her on social

Shana’s work with Health At Every Size (HAES) or find her on social

How Anna Sweeney coaches people to heal their relationship with food and their bodies

RESOURCES

The National Eating Disorders Association website, screening tool, toll-free National Eating Disorders Helpline (myneda.org/helpline-chat), and 24/7 Crisis Support via text (send NEDA to 741-741) are great resources.

Why We Move

23m · Published 17 Mar 12:50

Today we're tuning in to answer the question 'Why do we move?' The pandemic dramatically changed how (and why) we workout. Boutique fitness classes were replaced with apps, we emptied store shelves of home workout equipment, and began logging an impressive amount of miles on our evening strolls in pursuit of 'movement'. Will the routines we've adapted in quarantine stick? Are they good enough? In this episode we sat down with Charlee Atkins, Evelynn Escobar, Jess Sims, and Dr. Harry Pino to get real about what fitness habits we can ditch and which we should hold on to.

HOST: Ella Dove, Director, Creative Development at Well+Good

GUESTS:

Charlee Atkins, Founder and CEO of Le Sweat, former Soul Cycle Master Instructor

Evelyn Escobar, Founder and CEO of Hike Clerb

Jess Sims, Peloton Instructor

Harry Pino, PhD, Manager, Exercise Physiology, Princeton Longevity Center
