LWAG Talks

Recording of a performance, titled: Recreation - Exploring Ekphrasis through words and music, an event held at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery on 17th April 2021. It was inspired by the artworks of Olga Cironis in Dislocation, an exhibition held during the period 27 February to 5th June 2021 at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.

In this episode, Michael Houston and Sofie Nielsen from the Berndt Museum of Anthropology are joined by members of the 2020 LWAG Student Advisory Committee Maya Quinn and Jeremy Passmore to discuss the online exhibition 'Expressions of India: From the Ronald M. And Catherine H. Berndt Collection'. Originally scheduled to take place in person, 'Expressions of India' was modified to take place as an online exhibition because of the Gallery's closure due to COVID-19. Tune in to hear how the process of shifting the exhibition online presented a range of new challenges, as well as exciting opportunities. 'HERE&NOW20: Perfectly Queer' curator Brent Harrison speaks with exhibiting artist Benjamin Bannan about his new work 'Salvation Rainbow', on show in HERE&NOW20. HERE&NOW20: Perfectly Queer is the 2020 iteration of Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery's annual HERE&NOW exhibition series exploring issues and themes pertinent to Western Australian contemporary art practice. Curated by Brent Harrison, HERE&NOW20: Perfectly Queer focuses on the practice of queer artists in Western Australia and examines how artists draw on histories and their own lived experiences to create artworks that reflect on what it means to be queer. Learn more about the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art (CCWA) in this conversation with CCWA curator Lee Kinsella and members of LSAC (LWAG Student Advisory Committee) Victor Arul, Fannisa Balqis Assyilah, Mia Davis and Amy Reid. One of several major public collections owned by the University of Western Australia, the CCWA consists of over 700 works of art created by Australia women artists. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, LWAG Director Professor Ted Snell, speaks with Perth businessman Ivan Hoffman about the fundraising involved in building the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. In 1986, Hoffman was the Honorary Director of the fundraising appeal to build the Gallery, which officially opened to the public on 18 July 1990.
