Stop Numbing Out

In this episode, I talk briefly about how we tend to use less than helpful behaviours to try to ignore how we are feelings when we experience 'negative' emotions - and a few tips and tricks on how to start getting better at recognising our feelings and 'sitting with them'.

Identifying Your Values to Bring Ease to your Life

Ever felt like something just wasn't right in your life?  Sometimes we find ourselves living out of alignment with those values and belief systems that we hold quite dear.  This can cause a real sense of unease and tension in our lives.   Download a list of core values at https://drcarla.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Values_DrCarlaMaree.pdf or google for a list - print it out and have a go at finding your top 3-4 values that you hold in your life.

When making major decisions, or living life on a daily basis, run them through the filter of these values.

Comment over on the podcast post at Dr Carla - Holistic Psychologist page on FB or on Instagram @drcarla_holisticpsych and let me know what your top 3-4 values are.

Currently mine are:

  1. Connection
  2. Security (inc. financial)
  3. Self-care (including mental and physical well-being)

Have a great day peeps and I'll chat with you soon.

The Pandemic - Stress, Divided Communities and What to Do

There's no denying that the last 18 months has been a new level of worldwide stress that has everyone scrambling to make sense of what it all means.  Communities, countries, families and friendships have become divided for a lot of people as everyone tries to figure out the best way for us to deal with it all.

Today I want to give a simple explanation of why people react they way they do to this global stress, explain how we can understand what's going on in our brains and why people react the way they do, and give you a couple of tips on how to reduce the stress and our stress reactions during this time.

If you feel you are being challenged by pandemic stress, please reach out to support systems in your country that may be able to offer help, advice and steps to take to help you improve your mental well-being.

In Australia, you can call LifeLine on 13 11 14 or visit your GP.  If you are outside of Australia, please reach out to a health professional for advice on where to get mental health support.

Stay safe, be kind.
