Whiskey Business went “dry” for only the second time in our history of podcasting, tossing a nod to those giving Sober September a shot and accommodating our guest, Jeff Gage who’s made a decision to stop drinking as well. Good, hot coffee was served and provided the opportunity to discuss those times when drinking didn’t turn out so well. We’ve all been there. There was humor in the stories but also lessons in the mix as well. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and see where you’ve been with booze and more importantly where you are. The tables were turned on this installment of Whiskey Business as our host, Dino Tripodis was the guest and the topic was a True Crime case he was instrumental in. A case of MURDER. The Just Sweats Case was an insurance fraud for murder case that started in 1988 and ended in 1992 with John Hawkins, the alleged mastermind behind the whole plot being the last one apprehended and tried and convicted for conspiracy to commit murder. His partners, Melvin Hanson and Richard Boggs were apprehended and convicted FOR the murder of Ellis Greene prior to Hawkin’s capture. And…they almost got away with it. Interviewed by attorney, Bill Mattes, who left no stone unturned and in turn brought out ghosts that Dino had not confronted in decades, you need to listen or watch and find out the part our host played in initiating the hunt and the subsequent lessons learned that stick with him more than 35 years later. Martin Kennedy & Pat Byrne: GO BUA OR GO HOME
Whiskey Business loves being the first kid on the block with something special and on this podcast we got the sneak peek of some NEW Irish Whiskeys from BUA which originates here in Columbus but is made with tender, Irish care in Ireland. What I called “fightin’ whiskey was a single grain but there were also some single malts that were finished in tawny port casks, ALL of them great including the BUA Original which has come a long way since we sampled Batch #1 a few years back. Great whiskey coupled with great stories from Martin and Pat made for a great podcast that went “into the wee” hours of the evening and probably could gone on even more.
