How I met my Mentor
·
Our mentor for the 8th episode is โจHui Chenโจ.ย Hui is an internationally renowned leader in ethics and compliance. She is the first-ever Compliance Counsel Expert at the United States Department of Justice and served as a senior compliance leader in industries such as technology, pharmaceutical and financial.
Even though she has an impressive career, we actually invited Hui to share with us her unusual professional path. She let herself to be surprised by life and grab every opportunity that appeared her way, not only as a Law practitioner ๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธ . For instance, she also studied Theology, worked as a minister and as a cook in Italy ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณ
With her role now, she is helping people and companies to not have regrets and make good decisions for the rest of their professional or even personal lives. And with her 'carpe diem' type of approach to her career, she has run to challenges instead of running from challenges.
When we speak about mentorship, she speaks about her first mentor and her learnings. She also believes that you can learn from everybody: "Be open to unsolicited mentorship and unexpected learning opportunities".

Our 16th mentor is โจJessica Geutnerโจ, a powerhouse in the automotive and tech industries.ย
She is from Germany, studied engineering ๐ก and has over 11 years of experience in the automotive industry and 3 in tech. Both are male-dominated industries which have taught her how to navigate gender stereotypes in the workplace and how to overcome them ๐ช.ย
She is currently the vice president of a strategic customer ad sales force๐ผ, but, when she was an executive assistant, she had to face many challenges because of being a woman in a manโs world. However, this didnโt stop Jessica and she didnโt let sexist stereotypes get in the way of her career๐ซ.ย
Jessica talks about the need for fostering an inclusive and diverse environment in the workplace and how we need to collaborate ๐ค with one another to achieve this goal.
