How to Find More Balance in Your Busy LIfe!

17m · GLAM State of Mind · 10 Nov 14:24

Do you wear many different hats like me? I'm a wife, a mom of 3 and a business owner and sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish all I want (or need) to accomplish! I recently felt so conflicted about competing demands upon my time, that I felt I needed to write all of my roles down on paper. So I pulled out a notebook, drew a circle in the middle and wrote "ME" in that circle. I then began to brain dump and started writing some of my roles and responsibilities in other circles or bubbles on the page and connected them all to the center circle. And you know what? Before long, I had filled the entire page in that notebook! Having it all down on paper took it out of my head and helped me see my overwhelm in black and white before me. But it also helped me keep my perspective about balance and what that word really means to me. Forget about everything being perfectly equal... and forget that guilt-ridden word of "perfection"! Let's start thinking of balance differently to make our lives (and tasks before us) easier to navigate and master! I'll share my inspiration with you in this episode!

Grief Has No Expiration Date

I spent my 40s drowning in grief over the loss of several family members in my life. An entire decade of my life. And while I wish I could have those loved ones back and those TEN years back, I know that I am a stronger person now in my 50s for making it through that season of grief. I learned a lot about myself and also about my relationships I had with others. I was shocked to see people walk out of my life during my most painful losses and I saw people come into my life in a newly appreciated and loving way. Whatever your grief looks like - or feels like - I want you to know it is your journey and no one can tell you what it should look like. I became so tired of people telling me that the first year was the hardest or the worst. Because as I found out, following years can be just as hard or harder. Don't stop moving. Don't stop loving. Don't stop caring for yourself. Be who you need to be for yourself and love on those who love you back. Listen to my inspiration I have for YOU.

Have You Ever Told Yourself You Don't Deserve Something?

Being the mom of 3 kids has taught me many lessons, but being the mom of a daughter has shown me life through another female's eyes. Watching her journey through teen life has helped me understand things that many females struggle with in daily life - and I see it from a different view as her mom. Have you ever told yourself you don't deserve something? Listen to why I want you to stop!

What Was the #1 Thing I Hated Most About Working in Hollywood?

After college, I worked in the movie business in Hollywood at the agency that put together a little show called "America's Funniest Home Videos". I say "little" with a smile because it absolutely revolutionized a concept known as reality tv when it launched back in the Fall of 1989! The agency also represented hundreds of actors and actresses, but as a 22 year old college graduate, I didn't really appreciate the lifestyle of a young, struggling actress... until recently. Now, in my 50s, the lessons I learned from movie and television actresses thirty years ago still resonates with me. Let me inspire you to embrace your inner actress!

How to Find Yourself at Any Age

The stories we tell ourselves can make us or break us… but we choose our own thoughts… we choose which story we want to write. We choose which stories give us power. We can focus on stories about our setbacks or our grief or our horrible and damaged past.Or we can focus on how much stronger we are because we overcame tough times. I have plenty of friends who have succeeded despite horrific childhoods – unimaginable setbacks and things I can’t even repeat here – and they are changing the narrative and the plot and rewriting their life story as they move forward. That is where braveness and courage and self-confidence blaze their own beautiful pathway. And that is where personal growth and peace and happiness live.

I put myself on hold for 20 years while I followed my husband's military career and raised my 3 babies... and along the way I forgot who I was and what fueled my soul. I spent my 30s raising my babies and I fell into a decade of grief over the loss of loved ones during my 40s. I had no idea I would find myself again in my 50s. Finally! This is my story and my challenge to YOU to find yourself if you've been lost too!
