OBEDIENCE IS A COMMAND:
Deuteronomy 6:4-9“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
FAMILY - Ephesians 6:1-3Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
ON THE JOB - Hebrews 13:17 (KJV)Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
THE LORD EXPECTS OBEDIENCE:

Galatians 5:13-14For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

WE LOVE THE LORD BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED US:
- 1 John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.”
- 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

DANGERS OF DISOBEDIENCE:
LOSS OF PROMISES - Numbers 20:7-12…and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.” And Moses took the staff from before the LORD, as he commanded him.Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
YOU WILL STAND ALONE WITH NO GODLY HELP - Judges 2:1-3Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
YOU ARE DENIED BLESSINGS - Joshua 5:6For the people of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not obey the voice of the LORD; the LORD swore to them that he would not let them see the land that the LORD had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO YOUR ENEMIES - Nehemiah 9:20, 26-27You gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. “Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies. Therefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. (Israel confessing their sins to the LORD)
YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW - Romans 2:6-8He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE:

GOD STAYS WITH US AS WE OBEY HIM - Luke 11:28But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
THE LORD REVEALS WHAT’S BEST FOR US WHEN WE OBEY HIM - Ephesians 5:6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
GOD WILL PROVIDE FOR US - ISAIAH 1:19 “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”

WARNINGS TO A CRITICAL PERSON:
JAMES 4:11-12 - Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?
MATTHEW 7:1-5 - “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye."

SOME CRITICISM IS NECESSARY: PROVERBS 4:13 - Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
GAIN UNDERSTANDING: PROVERBS 15:31-32 - Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be home among the wise. Those who disregard discipline themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.
IT’S UNWISE TO TURN DOWN ALL CRITICS: PROVERBS 29:1 - Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed-without remedy.
STAY POSITIVE IN THE CRITICAL PROCESS: PHILIPPIANS 2:14-16 - Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
STAY FOCUSED ON GOD NOT PEOPLE: 1 TIMOTHY 2:20 - O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—
