Be Reconciled to God
Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord,we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again,but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us,so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.If we are “out of our mind,”as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselvesbut for him who died for themand was raised again.
So from now on we regard no one from a worldlypoint of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,the new creationhas come: The old has gone, the new is here!All this is from God,who reconciled us to himself through Christand gave us the ministry of reconciliation:that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors,as though God were making his appeal through us.We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.God made him who had no sinto be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
As God’s co-workerswe urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.For he says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
THE BLESSINGS OF RECONCILIATION
- STRONGER FAITH - Proverbs 3:5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
- RENEWED PHYSICAL STRENGTH - Isaiah 40:31But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength;
- GROWTH IN HUMILITY - 1 Peter 5:6-8 “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
- GOD WILL KEEP YOU (you won’t look like what you’ve been through) - Psalm 119:116 Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees.
- STRONGER TRUST THAT GOD’S IN CONTROL (no matter what the outcome) - Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. WARNINGS TO A CRITICAL PERSON:

SOME CRITICISM IS NECESSARY: PROVERBS 4:13 - Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
GAIN UNDERSTANDING: PROVERBS 15:31-32 - Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be home among the wise. Those who disregard discipline themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.
IT’S UNWISE TO TURN DOWN ALL CRITICS: PROVERBS 29:1 - Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed-without remedy.
STAY POSITIVE IN THE CRITICAL PROCESS: PHILIPPIANS 2:14-16 - Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
