059: Megan Dowd on Sharing Our Vulnerability With Healthy Boundaries, The Dangers of Toxic Positivity, and The Importance of Rage Walks to Help Manage Her Depression

32m · Going There with Jen · 06 May 08:00

Megan Dowd calls herself a compassionate hardass and I can soooo relate. She’s also master of funny faces, business therapist for neurodiverse run businesses, and all around delightful human being.

Megan and I talk about the importance of sharing our stories with healthy boundaries, toxic positivity (listen in on one of Megan’s spicy soapboxes on Insta), and ways we can tune into our bodies and give it exactly what it needs whether that’s a rage walk or a calming, relaxing bath.

This episode is incredibly relatable, down-to-earth, FUNNY, and full of amazing tips on learning to listen to your body and giving it what it needs during a depression cycle. I so hope you listen in and share with friends + family that could use some real, practical advice with a heaping of laughter and realness.

064: Susan Shehata on The Intersections of Race, Culture, and Trauma

Join Susan Shehata and me as we chat about the intersections of race, culture, and trauma.

The first half of this episode has us talking about the many healing modalities Susan employs including space work, breathwork, and core story work in which she’s developed her own process including the simple system she’s created to identify our stories around worth, lovability, belonging, safety, competency, power, and freedom and how those core stories become our subconscious operating system driving how we show up in the world.

The second half? Well, you'll just have to tune in...

063: Paula Jenkins on How To Find Joy Even When Life Is Hella Hard

Join Paula Jenkins and me to discuss how we all go through hard times but it’s finding your way through it and to the other side – knowing you will battle your way out of it and that you’re going to be ok.

Oftentimes it’s just a battle to feel like you can access joy but that doesn’t mean you give up trying to find it…to feel it.

But it’s not just about joy. It’s also about grief and feeling every feeling in-between. Choosing the path that leads to love even when the options range from shitty to shittier…there’s always still a choice and you can always choose love.

062: Eunice Brownlee on Living With Trauma But More Importantly, Living With Hope And The Power Of Sharing Our Stories

cw: trauma, abuse including that of a minor

We can all agree…trauma sucks. And while we all wished it was different…trauma happens far more often than many of us even know.

If you’ve experienced trauma, you get the funny ways it shows up in your life from what triggers you to how you feel in your body. And it never goes away…you just find ways to work with it.

Eunice Brownlee and I dive into this and so much more in this raw + vulnerable story of trauma, resilience, and hope.

061: Lisa Orkin on Running Away From Success and Finding Motivation When It's Hard To Get Out Of Bed

How do you find motivation when it’s hard to get out of the bed and not just because the bed is super cozy with luxuriously soft sheets and a down comforter that’s just the right weight – you know – not too heavy but light enough to keep you warm? But because life feels heavy and you’re constantly in the grind going nowhere fast?

That’s exactly the question Lisa Orkin and I explore in this week’s #goingtherewithjen. It’s one thing to be young and have your entire life ahead of you to figure your shit out…but entirely different when you’re 57.
