This time we are heading on a journey across America with everyone’s favourite demigod, Percy Jackson as we explore ‘The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.’ Jimi and Tommy work out why this show is so faithful to the source material, analyse the many different characters in the show and discuss the fallout from the recent Broadway reviews, and why it may highlight a bigger systemic issue in the world of theatre critics. Lenoard Bernstein (or is it Bernstein), Betty Comden (the bombshell that she is) and Adolph Green (he’s there too) have devised a wonderful, timeless(?) classic in this show which might, indeed, be the FIRST true musical comedy! SHOW NOTES It’s like she’s in the room with us! Enjoy the incomparable Christine Pedi…or, perhaps, the real Liza Minnelli answering “Vogue’s” 73 questions. Tommy’s never seen it, have you? Enjoy The Simpsons musical Springfield Springfield. Come along with Jay Armstrong Johnson as he takes us on a tour of the newly re-renovated Lyric Theatre for the 2014 production. Did he mention the pit? It’s for the big orchestra. It’s really big. And they have it. In this show. And they really want you to know about it. Eddie Izzard: Living up to Great Expectations (The Theatre Podcast Crossover)

Eddie Izzard is a Tony Award nominated, Emmy Award winning actress who quickly rose to fame in the 90s as a phenomenal standup comedian - producing two of my all time favorite specials Glorious and Dress to Kill. Among her 41 film credits include The Avengers, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen, and Rock Dog. She has around 40 TV credits, is a politician, activist, philanthropist, historian, linguist, has lent her voices to video games and now along with her brother Mark have adapted Great Expectations, the Charles Dickens classic, into a 2 act play now showing at the Greenwich House Theater in NYC where she plays 19 different characters. This episode covers why Eddie ran for Parliament (yes, THE Parliament), how she finds her comedic seams that glue her standup together, why running marathons became a hobby, and what it means that she is exactly 150 years younger than Charles Dickens (spoiler, it doesn't mean much!). After losing her mom at a very young age, Eddie turned to the theatre in what she believes is the need to feel the love from the audience - a substitution for the missing affection from her mother.
