How to Overcome Feelings of Guilt, and Learn How to Forgive Yourself

20m · Mind Melt · 08 Mar 12:29

In this episode I go in depth on how the guilt we feel is often because of other people's expectations of ourselves, not our own. I talk about the importance of developing your own beliefs values and expectations for yourself in order to not feel guilty for not meeting other people's expectations. I recently heard a quote that really resonated with me, it said "The cure to pain is pain itself". When we feel guilty sometimes the best thing to do is to reflect and dissect the guilt in order to make amends and forgive ourselves so that we can move forward in our life.

Negative Impacts of Social Media

In this episode of The Mind Melt Podcast I go into depth about how using social media can have negative impacts on other parts of your life, especially self improvement. In order to grow in any aspect of your life you need focus, and scrolling through social media not only kills our attention span but also our capacity to focus in on one thing. This can make it difficult to create consistent habits and rituals, making it even harder to make changes in your life. Also when posting on social media you begin to crave attention and recognition in your everyday life which is never a good thing, because most likely its not gonna come as often as you want it to.

Why Can't We Get Off Our Phones? The Power of a Social Media Addiction

One of the biggest problems we face today is the screen epidemic. It seems like people in our lives are constantly on screens whether they be tablets, phones, or laptops, there seems to be no escape. Have you ever asked yourself why you simply cannot stop checking your phone throughout the course of the day? Well the answer is not a simple one, but it starts with the tech giants engineering teams. You see every companies job is to make money, and for social media companies this comes through new users, and time spent on the app. In order to get you to stay on their platform longer software engineers are manipulating your brain chemistry to keep you coming back for Dopamine hit after Dopamine hit.

Social media addiction, like other addictions happens because of our brains reward center. Whenever you check your notifications, or get a like on one of your posts Dopamine the pleasure chemical is released and it tells your brain that every time you check your phone you get rewarded. Our brain sees this as a good thing, and gradually over time we get addicted to social media.
