48. Choosing Joy

46m · Sow Connected Podcast · 25 Oct 10:00

Today we are going to take time to dive into a core aspiration of Sow Connected: the idea of living a life rooted in joy. We start with our current Highs and Lows (i.e., traveling in Malaysia, building strong family connections, family progress, and carousal rides). Then we shift into Today's Topic. Next we share a couple of Tips & Tricks including trampoline sleepovers and the Spot It game). Finally, we close out with Facing Forward to share what we want to make true in our lives in the next two weeks as we work to cultivate lives full of joy, purpose, and community.

52. Looking Back to Look Forward: Closing Out 2022

Every year at this time, we both engage in the process of reflecting on our previous year and setting intentions for the upcoming year. We purposefully split our podcast conversation into two distinct parts. The first conversation is today and it's about looking backward. Then in two weeks, we will be chatting about our thoughts for looking forward. The reason we split them up is to make sure we spend sufficient time on the reflection part. We find that our intentions are better when they are adequately connected to and grounded in what has come before.

51. Facing Death So We Can Truly Live

We know it sounds a little bizarre to be doing a podcast about death (while many are prepping for the holidays!), but we found preparing for this episode was incredibly helpful. The inspiration came from hearing a hospice worker talk about how having a healthier relationship with death can help us live better lives. So today we spend a little time talking about our relationships with Death!

50. Finding Our Purpose

We are fascinated with the topic of vocation—of  trying to align the gifts and interests that we have with the needs of  our communities and the world. Parker Palmer says that “Vocation does  not come from willfulness. It comes from listening. I must listen to my  life and try to understand what it is truly about – quite apart from  what I would like it to be about – or my life will never represent  anything real in the world, no matter how earnest my intentions.” This  reminds us of the way that Maria Montessori talks about helping children  find their “cosmic tasks” in the world. Yet, in our systems and in our  daily lives we rarely have time to deeply reflect on our role in the  world’s unfolding. Today, we are pausing to talk about it!
