Words Matter - The Patient & Provider Relationship

In this episode, we discuss why “words matter” when talking about the healthcare provider to client interaction. We dive into Andrew’s experiences not only with the verbiage he has used/currently uses but also the clinical experiences of clients who have adopted language or attached themselves to language from other providers that may not be helping their overall outcomes. Dr. McWhirter's top tips for how families should approach youth sports and sport specialization

  • Don’t specialize too early and consider starting organized sports at around 6 years old
  • Focus on the FUN in competitive sports
  • Come in at least 6 weeks before the start of the season for a pre-sports physical
  • Younger athletes should first be focused on safe mechanics in sports
  • Make sure to warm up and cool down
  • Allow your child at least 1-2 days off from organized sports
  • One single sport with one single team per season
  • 3 months off of the sport per year (can be split up)
  • Allow and encourage non-sport condition and cross training
  • Keep an eye on what your children are putting in their bodies (supplements, diet, etc.)
  • Do your research on any programs you are signing up for, many are unregulated

Playing Offense and Defense For Your Overall Health

Dr. Andrew Eccles and Ben Eccles discuss playing Defense AND Offense in regards to COVID-19 in this episode of the podcast. We all know the importance of the defensive side, including wearing a mask, social distancing, and maintaining good hand hygiene among other things. What is missed is how we can play OFFENSE. Focus on what we can control, and this includes working against the most common risk factors for the current pandemic. The majority of the risk factors are preventable conditions, so why not act!
