This episode we speak to Emma Kelly, better known as Happy Axe. Based in Melbourne, Happy Axe is an experimental ambient project. The first record from the project, released in 2018, is titled Dream Punching and was followed up by a release of a 40 minute improvisation session titled Stromlo.
Emma tells us about her musical journey and moving from folk music to the world of ambient experimental music. We talk about her processes in composing and writing and how they differ from the way she composes through improvisation. We also discuss performing throughout Australia and abroad, as well as working with the artist run label Spirit Level.
