Biography of composer Victor Herbert from Cavalcade of America broadcast from the 1930's.  Victor August Herbert (February 1, 1859 – May 26, 1924) was an American composer, cellist and conductor of Irish ancestry and German training. Although Herbert enjoyed important careers as a cello soloist and conductor, he is best known for composing many successful operettas that premiered on Broadway from the 1890s to World War I.  Philip Green (19 July 1911 – 6 October 1982), sometimes credited as Harry Philip Green, was a film and television composer and conductor.   

He composed more than 150 film scores including The Yellow Balloon (1952), Carry on Admiral (1957), The Square Peg(1958, together with several other Norman Wisdom films), The League of Gentlemen (1960), Victim (1961), The Singer Not the Song (1961), and The Intelligence Men (1965). His themes for John and Julie (1954) and The March Hare (1956) both won Ivor Novello Awards.[2] He also composed the themes for the popular 1960s television crime series Ghost Squad and Sergeant Cork.

Like many composers of film music and light music, he also wrote prolifically for production music libraries and as a result, a number of his compositions are familiar through their use in film, radio and television programmes. Many of these works are now published by Carlin Production Music.
