Alvin E. Miller, a native of Fort Pierce, Florida, earned a Bachelor's degree in 1981 (Sociology) from EKU. Miller arrived as a "walk-on" for the football team and soon proved his value to the team earning a football scholarship. He quickly began to “sink his cleats" into the history of a winning legacy under Coach Roy Kidd in a program that went on to become a football dynasty. In 1979, the EKU Football Team won its first national championship (NCAA I-AA). Miller was selected by ABC Television and Chevrolet as Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both the semi-final as well as the championship games.

Along with his football accomplishments came other life-changing EKU student experiences. Miller joined the ROTC program and also became a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. When he received his degree in 1981, he became the first family member of five generations to graduate from college. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Miller has received numerous awards and honors during his distinguished career. Among his many awards are the US Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, as well as Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and Outstanding Young Men of America. Most recently, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the EKU International Alumni Association.

Having served as a Chaplain, attaining the rank of Colonel in the US Army, and earning his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1999 from Oral Roberts University, Reverend Dr. Miller is currently the pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Reverend Miller is married to his lovely wife, the former Dominique Haywood. They reside in Nashville and have five children and two grandchildren.
