Should SA's be concerned about possibility of terror attacks in the wake of US warning & fallout?

14m · Radio Islam · 31 Oct 12:51

A week ago, South Africans realised that the country is not isolated from global security threats after the United States, British and Australian embassies put South Africa on terror alert. In a separate alert, the US government stated that it had "acquired intelligence that terrorist groups are planning to carry out near-term assaults against places where US people congregate in South Africa, notably premium shopping centers and malls in Johannesburg and Cape Town." The majority of South Africans disregarded the US Embassy's warning last week about a potential terror assault in Sandton over the weekend. Several significant events took place as scheduled in Sandton, while tens of thousands of people attended a ceremony in KwaZulu-Natal to see Misuzulu kaZwelithini's official recognition as the next Zulu monarch. Currently, it is unclear if South Africans need to worry about the prospect of terrorist attacks in their country. Godfrey Ramuhala, a lecturer in strategic studies at the Faculty of Military Science at Stellenbosch University and Martin Ewi, African security expert and senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies discussed the issue.
