Leigh Russell

40m · Talking Authors · 24 May 06:57

Cameron interviews the prestigious author Leigh Russell. ignoring the poor quality sound, it was recorded at a very busy crime fest in Bristol, she talks about how she moved from full time teaching to writing, what it takes to produce a body of work like hers and discusses the three things that she feels new writers should know. Off the back of this Cameron purchased some lapel mikes to ensure that all the future interviews in busy areas can be heard, as guests as good as this one should be heard properly.

Steve Barlow

This week’s amazing podcast is with the brilliant Steve Barlow. He talks about being one half of The Two Steve’s, how he has managed to save the library in his local community and also how he managed to grow his collection of published works to over 300 titles. You even get to listen to Cameron get Steve’s name wrong (in his defence it is a pen name and not the one that Cameron knows him as, but yes you’re correct it is a rooky mistake).

Cara Hunter

This week’s author is the lovely Cara hunter. Cameron gets to ask the questions he wants to know about how she created her first novel and they talk about all aspects of crime writing. The entire interview was conducted at the National History Museum in Oxford and this may be why Cameron lost the last five minutes of the interview. The sound quality is sketchy, but Cameron wanted to record it somewhere interesting and pertinent to Cara’s incredible novels.

Jan Ellis

This week's interview is with the wonderful Jan Elis. Cameron gets to have a lovely cup of tea and a cuddle with her gorgeous little dog. Despite a guest turning up at the door and the phone ringing Jan gives a brilliant interview, talking about a variety of subjects, ranging from favourite characters through to researching pirates. Her witty quip keeps Cameron laughing throughout and you can certainly see her comedic style of writing in her personality.
