Lea Tran: I Did Not Miss the Boat and Neither Should You | That's the #truth

One woman's hope to encourage others to break their silence and share their stories.

Lea Tran's journey to freedom didn't end when she left VietNam and arrived in the United States in 1980 as one of many Boat People refugees. She was an adolescent girl stuck between two cultures and continents for many decades. Although Lea was free from tyranny and oppression, the emotional bonds of guilt and responsibility kept her from being truly free. After forty years, Lea learns that freedom is not only a place but also a state of mind and inner peace. By sharing her memoir "I Did Not Miss the Boat," she chooses to step out of the victim mindset to live an empowered, authentic life.

Lea believes everyone has a story, a life lesson we can learn from. "Extracting from her multi-faceted cultural and life experiences, Lea motivates her audience to bridge the gaps of cultural differences, to take action to break the mold of generational suffering, and to create their own opportunity to speak their voice, live their truth."

Edward Di Gangi: What family Means | That's the #truth

Edward Di Gangi: What family Means | That's the #truth

Edward Di Gangi was adopted at birth in New York City. An only child, he made no effort to explore his heredity until, at age 69, a visit to a cemetery where members of his adoptive mother's family were buried stirred his interest. Over the past three years, through extensive archival research and DNA testing, Ed peeled back the layers of his once unknown family piecing together the life story of an extraordinary woman—his birth mother.

Far from being the ordinary woman that Di Gangi had envisioned, Genevieve Knorowski was an aspiring “artista” who left home at the age of seventeen in the midst of World War II to join an ice-skating company in Vancouver. Journeying alone by train across the continent from New York, Genevieve would go on to achieve fame as an ice show performer, skating in the United States, Central and South America, and across Europe. However, it is a decision Genevieve makes on Easter Sunday in a church on New York City’s Upper West Side that will forever connect the life of a young woman pursuing her dreams with the life of a seventy-year-old man searching for answers to the lifelong questions of who we are, where we come from, and what family means. "
