Writing "Up, Not Down Syndrome" with Author Nancy Schwartz

31m · Main Line Makers · 20 Apr 05:00

I recently enjoyed reading the book, "Up, Not Down Syndrome", a love letter and a map written by Nancy Schwartz about her journey in parenting her youngest son, Alex.  Nancy learned at Alex’s birth that he had Down Syndrome and from that moment on, she’s been learning that love is greater than fear and that every single person has gifts.  Today Nancy, Main Line mom, teacher and author, is joining me to talk about her book “Up, Not Down Syndrome” and just a few of the beautiful lessons that she has learned through her journey as Alex’s mother.

Helping Teens Through Struggles with Lizzie McCarron of The Center for Families

It’s hard being a parent - and saying that is most definitely an understatement.  It’s also really hard being a teenager - especially will all of the challenges they have faced over the past year with the pandemic.  In Malvern, tucked away beside the Chester Valley Trail, we have a truly wonderful place that exists to support teens who are feeling overwhelmed with emotional, mental and behavioral struggles.  The Center for Families runs a day treatment program for teens, that is open year round.  They work with their families to create a safe, nurturing and integrated approach that restores healthy, authentic connection to teens’ lives.  Today I’m talking with Lizzie McCarron, the director at Center for Families about what parents can do when their child is struggling and how the Center works with teens and families to bring everyone back to a place of healing.
