Healing from trauma & Examining our stories with Mytrae Meliana

15m · Red Thread Publishing · 07 Jan 06:00

Healing from trauma is complex. Especially when women are asking the wrong questions: “What is wrong with me?” Rather “what is wrong with the system?” Fear, guilt & shame messaging dominates the story.

The question to ask: “If you are feeling fear, shame or guilt, ask, is this my story or is this a larger story I have been told by somebody else: family, culture, mainstream society or religion. Any story that tells us we are not good enough --- something is wrong with that story.”

Let’s get real for a minute.

Take a look around your home. How much of what you see is there because you genuinely value it, and how much is there because it is or was valuable to someone else, someone you care about enough that parting with those things has become a real challenge?

Judy Granlee-Gates knows this dilemma all too well.
