1h 43m · Next Best Picture Podcast · 23 Mar 19:18

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham,Dan Bayer,Giovanni Lago&Brendan Hodges. Today, we are reviewing the latest film from director Doug Liman, "Road House," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Austin Post & Conor McGregor. A reimagining of the cult classic 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, this violent, hyper-masculine adrenaline rush of an action film changes the location and introduces new techniques to its fight scenes to update the story for a modern audience, but what did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss the action, comedy, performances, writing, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review (you can watch the movie now on Prime Video). Thank you for listening, and enjoy! "The Dead Don't Hurt" had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received decent reviews for its direction by Academy Award-nominee Viggo Mortensen, his score, and the performances from him and Vicky Krieps. An emotionally sweeping romance set against the backdrop of the old West, Mortensen and Krieps were both kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their views on the material, working alongside each other, and more. Interview With "In A Violent Nature" Director/Writer Chris Nash

"In A Violent Nature" had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where it received strong notices for its direction by Chris Nash, which takes the approach of telling a slasher film from the perspective of the serial killer rather than the victims. The film disgusted audiences with its brutal and highly meticulous kills and is now being released in theaters by IFC Films, with a streaming release on Shudder set for later this year. Nash was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his feature directorial debut. Please be sure to check out the film, which will be released in limited release in the U.S. by IFC Films on May 31st. Thank you, and enjoy!
