In Episode 197 I sit down with former Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney. I’ve looked forward to this episode for quite some time because I believe Adam’s leadership and common-sense approach as sheriff may have dramatically changed the trajectory of my life. He refused to enforce COVID lockdown measures in the county which I live and operate my business. In a time where many small business owners ended up in handcuffs, that wasn’t happening here in Snohomish County, and I want to thank him again for choosing the hard right over the easy wrong. Showing courage in the face of tyranny will never be forgotten by many of us. When he stood up against the political elite, he painted a target on his back which all ensured they’d make sure his run as sheriff was a short one. EE 205: Pushing Back Against Poor Policy with James Smith
In Episode 205 I sit down with James Smith. James was an Officer with the Warm Spring police department which is located about an hour north from Bend Oregon. James saw what he interpreted as massive shortcomings with the department's leadership and started questioning the legality of many of this department’s SOPs. After bringing up several issues to his chain of command, James claims they started targeting him on unrelated issues as a form of retaliation for questioning the department's policy. EE 204: Hunting Hawaii with Joshua Dukes!
In Episode 204 I sit down with my friend Joshua Dukes. Joshua and I became friends online as we both walked a similar path as first responders that ultimately left the profession because of the Covid Pandemic! After we connected, we kicked the idea of a Maui Axis deer hunt together and last weekend he and his boys guided me and Zach on an unforgettable adventure! A powerful friendship was forged over three long days hunting hard in the woods together. In today’s episode, we dive deep into hunting in Hawaii, and then also tell Joshua’s story going from a standout firefighter to being terminated over taking a stand for personal freedom during the pandemic. Joshua and his family are some of the best human beings I’ve ever met, and I am excited to forge a friendship that will undoubtedly last a lifetime! EE 202: The Jiu Jitsu Life with Marcus Buchecha Almeida
In Episode 202 I sit down with my friend and former Professor Marcus Buchecha Almeida. I trained under Buchecha from 2011-2013 and remain a teammate under the Checkmat banner to this day. We go all the back to the beginning of how Marcus found jiu jitsu and the long and arduous process of how he became an elite competitor. He went from wanting to quit jiu jitsu for having so many bad performances at competitions to becoming the most decorated jiu jitsu athlete of all time! Being part of the team and witnessing Buchecha’s meteoric rise to superstardom is something I will cherish for life. What a time to live in Southern California with Checkmat. As someone who knew Marcus before he was a blackbelt world champion, I can attest he’s still that kindhearted down to earth person I remember from 2011. I really enjoyed this reconnection.
