How To Choose What Story About You Gets Told with Ally Fallon

52m · You Need Therapy · 25 Mar 07:00

This week, Ally Fallon is back for round two of YNT, right ahead of the release of her new book, Write Your Story. Her core message for readers is that they already have the magic to be the hero in their own lives – and the number one way to harness your main character energy is to write down your stories. Using her proven 8-step framework, Ally expertly guides readers to tell a more interesting story and begin to make meaning and live with more purpose.

In this conversation, Ally and Kat talk about the importance (and discomfort) of doing things they aren't good at, how we are making meaning regardless of if we want to or not, and what it's like to have a therapist as a parent (possible foreshadowing for Kat's future).

Social Media Is Fake, Here Are Some Things That Are True About Performative Vulnerability

This week, Kat is talking about Performative vulnerability again. Performative vulnerability is what happens when we use sharing (or oversharing) parts of our lives in order to gain something in return, such as attention or feelings of superiority. It can look like an example of altruism on the outside; risking judgment for the greater good of others feeling less alone or more connected. However, the intentions of those who engage in this are far from selfless. And although it is super frustrating when we see this displayed around us, this episode is less about how we can call others behavior out and more about how we can learn to pay better attention to our intentions and our actions.
