Forensic Evidence Links Tylee Ryan to Crime Scene Tools in Daybell Murder Case

In a significant development in the Daybell murder trial, forensic biologist Katherine Dace provided crucial testimony regarding DNA evidence found on tools allegedly used in the crimes. The courtroom listened intently as Dace detailed her findings, which could play a pivotal role in the case against Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell.
The testimony, given in Idaho State Court, focused on various items recovered from the crime scene, including a pickaxe and several shovels. Dace, an experienced forensic biologist with the Idaho State Police, described how she was able to extract partial DNA profiles from these tools. Most notably, she identified Tylee Ryan, one of the alleged victims, as a possible contributor to the DNA found.
"Testing the largest piece of material from the pickaxe, we obtained a partial DNA profile," Dace stated in court. "Comparative analysis suggests Tylee Ryan as a possible contributor to this profile, with the probability of it being her DNA versus a random individual being 159 trillion to one."
The court was shown photos of the pickaxe and the specific areas where Dace collected material for DNA testing. She noted the presence of burn marks and degraded material, which she attributed to exposure to heat and fire. Despite these conditions, Dace was still able to conduct a successful comparative analysis.
Additionally, Dace testified about finding a green substance on part of a shovel, which also matched Tylee Ryan's DNA with a staggering certainty of 604 octillion (27 zeros). "These findings are crucial as they directly link the material found on these tools to one of the victims," Dace explained.
The impact of this testimony could be substantial, as it provides concrete forensic evidence linking the tools found at Chad Daybell's property to the victims. The defense and prosecution listened closely, understanding the weight this evidence could carry in the ongoing trial.
Further unraveling the complex web of this case, FBI Intelligence Analyst Benjamin Dean provided insights into his review of hundreds of tips and digital evidence. Dean's work began in late March 2020, focusing on data extracted from devices seized from Daybell’s property, which included troubling finds like videos and photos relevant to the case.
The search of Chad and Lori's vehicle revealed more damning evidence. Items recovered included Tylee Ryan's debit card, social security cards belonging to both missing children, and an envelope stuffed with $10,500 in cash. The presence of these items in Lori’s possession raised alarming questions about the couple’s intentions and actions following the children's disappearance.
As the trial continues, further testimonies are expected to delve deeper into the forensic details and the implications of these findings. The community and families affected look on, hoping for justice to be served in this complex and heart-wrenching case.

SENTENCING PHASE- ID v Chad Daybell, Doomsday Prophet Murder Trial PART 1

During Friday's session, emotional testimonies from the victims' families were anticipated, aiming to provide the jury with a deeper understanding of the devastating impact of Daybell's actions. These statements are critical as they contribute to the jury's decision on the appropriate sentence for Daybell.
The courtroom heard first from Colby Ryan, Tylee's brother, who struggled through tears to convey his grief. "I will never get to see my sister grow up or achieve her dreams," he said. "She was robbed of her life, and we were robbed of her presence."
Following Colby, Larry and Kay Woodcock, JJ Vallow's grandparents, took the stand. Larry's voice shook as he described the pain of losing JJ, saying, "JJ was a light in our lives, and that light was cruelly extinguished. We will never recover from this loss."
As the day progressed, Tammy Daybell's family shared their anguish. Tammy's sister, Samantha Gwilliam, addressed the court with a mixture of sorrow and anger. "Tammy was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She deserved so much more than to be a victim of such betrayal and violence," Gwilliam stated.
The prosecution highlighted the cold and calculated nature of Daybell's actions, urging the jury to consider the maximum penalty. "Chad Daybell's crimes were premeditated and heinous. The loss felt by these families is immeasurable," said Prosecutor Rob Wood. "Justice demands that he faces the severest consequences."
Daybell's defense team sought to humanize their client, arguing that his life should be spared. "While Mr. Daybell has been convicted, he is still a father and has family who care about him. We ask the jury to consider life in prison without the possibility of parole," pleaded defense attorney John Prior.
The jury's deliberation on whether Daybell should receive a life sentence or the death penalty is expected to be intense and potentially lengthy, given the gravity of the crimes and the emotional weight of the victim impact statements.

GUILTY- Jury Deliberates Fate of Chad Daybell in High-Profile Murder Trial

The jury in the Chad Daybell murder trial has begun deliberations after hearing closing arguments and receiving detailed instructions on the charges. Daybell faces accusations of conspiracy to commit murder and grand theft by deception in connection with the deaths of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow, and Tammy Daybell.
Prosecutors Lindsey Blake and Rob Wood presented a comprehensive rebuttal closing argument, emphasizing Daybell's pivotal role in a conspiracy that led to the tragic deaths. Blake highlighted text messages between Daybell and Lori Vallow, revealing their belief in "zombies" and "death percentages," concepts they allegedly used to justify the killings.
"Chad says who’s dark, Chad says death percentages, and three bodies are located on his property. Three obstacles that were in their way," Blake stated, referencing a clip of Daybell in the back seat of a police car saying, "I’m not coming back."
The prosecution played several recordings, including a patriarchal blessing Daybell gave to Alex Cox, Lori Vallow's brother. Blake emphasized the message, "Alex had already helped him in ways they could never repay." The prosecution also showed a text message exchange where Chad referred to relatives as "obstacles."
Defense attorney John Prior countered, arguing that Chad Daybell's actions and beliefs were taken out of context. Prior insisted that Daybell's religious beliefs did not equate to a criminal conspiracy.
"It can’t be an agreement that we have consistent religious beliefs," Prior said, stressing that there was no direct evidence linking Daybell to the physical act of murder.
Prior also focused on the lack of DNA evidence on the tools used to bury Tylee and JJ and questioned the credibility of key witnesses, including Melanie Gibb and Zulema Pastenes. He argued that the investigation was flawed and relied too heavily on speculative and circumstantial evidence.
Judge Steven Boyce provided the jury with 41 instructions, including definitions of conspiracy, aiding and abetting, and reasonable doubt. He reminded jurors that the state must prove every element of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. "The state has to prove that Chad Daybell, with Lori Vallow, Alex Cox, or other co-conspirators, entered into some sort of an agreement to kill the children and to kill Tammy Daybell," Boyce instructed.
The jury was sequestered for deliberations, ensuring they remain isolated from outside influences. Five alternates were also randomly selected and sworn in, ready to step in if needed. "If there is reasonable doubt, and there is reasonable doubt, you must return a verdict of not guilty," Prior concluded in his closing argument.
As the jury deliberates, the community awaits the outcome of this high-profile case that has captivated national attention. The fate of Chad Daybell now rests in the hands of the jurors, who must sift through weeks of testimony and evidence to reach their verdict.
