ISA: Individual savings account, a scheme allowing individuals to hold cash, shares, and unit trusts free of tax on dividends, interest, and capital gains.

Stock: The capital raised by a company or corporation through the issue and subscription of shares.

Share: One of the equal parts into which a company's capital is divided, entitling the holder to a proportion of the profits.

Dividend: A sum of money paid regularly (typically annually) by a company to its shareholders out of its profits (or reserves).

Bond: A certificate issued by a government or a public company promising to repay borrowed money at a fixed rate of interest at a specified time.

Coupon: A detachable portion of a bond which is given up in return for a payment of interest.

Fund: A supply of capital belonging to numerous investors that provides a broader selection of opportunities, greater management expertise and lower investment fees than investors might be able to obtain on their own.

Portfolio: A range of investments held by a person or organisation.

APR: Annual or annualised percentage rate (used typically of interest on loans or credit).

Compound interest: The addition of interest to the principal sum of a loan or deposit, or in other words, interest on interest.

Impact investing: Investments made into companies, organisations, and funds with the intention to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return.

Net worth: Everything you own minus everything you owe.

SIPP: A self-invested personal pension, a pension plan that enables the holder to choose and manage the investments made.
