Baggy Green Caps, Positive Mindset & Challenging Yourself Brett Lee is one of the all-time great Australian Cricketers. Regarded as one of the fastest ever bowlers in the world, clocking 161km/h, this man has achieved success in all forms of the game. From taking a 5-wicket haul in his Australian Boxing Day Test debut on the MCG in 1999, to winning the 2003 World Cup Final over archrivals India and living out a childhood dream playing alongside his brother Shane in the green and gold colours. Taking 310 Test wickets, 380 One Day International wickets, achieving a total of 10 (ten) 5-wicket hauls and incredibly over a 20-year period consistently bowling over 150km/h – is just phenomenal. In this episode, we relive the moment that Binga received his famous Australian baggy green cap, the power of a positive mindset, the importance of challenging yourself, not taking the easy road in life and how fitness played an integral part of his success. We also get an amazing insight of Brett’s visualisation process, the ability to turn negatives into positives, bounce back from setbacks and injuries whilst always remembering what is important in life – his family. I hope you are inspired by this episode as much as I was. Binga is one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet, and it was a pleasure to have him on the show.

Perhaps where Australia as a Nation really got to experience the hilarious pair was on Channel 7’s program ‘The Dream’ during the broadcast of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

In this episode HG gives an incredible insight into what made the duo successful, how they solved problems, looked at sport from a different angle and how it is important to know your role.

Steve Balbi - Noiseworks founder, family man & being truly authentic

Steve Balbi is one of the all-time great Australian musicians and an icon in the industry. From first appearing on TV Talent quest show ‘Pot of Gold’ at the tender age of 12 in 1976, before leaving school at 16yrs of age to chase his dream of being a performing artist. Not too long after he founded and produced Aussie chart-toppers band ‘Noiseworks’ in 1986.

The accolades continue, with countless world-wide tours, 4 multi-platinum award winning albums and various ARIA Award nominations later, as well as performing on vocals and guitar for David Bowie’s Hours session.

Steve has also delivered the rebirth of Australian Cricket in the 2018/19 Summer composing and producing the new Test Cricket Theme song for FOX Sports. His new album composed during lockdown in 2020 ‘I Think I Know For Sure’ has also just been released.

In this episode, Steve gives a raw insight into life on the road as a musician, what it was like selling out concerts 6 nights a week and we are lucky enough to get a beautiful Bob Dylan rendition that truly is amazing!

However, what really shines through in this episode is the authenticity of Steve Balbi. His inspiring example of multiple times throughout his life where he made a decision to follow his heart and passion, trusting his instinct and believing that anything is possible.

Steve is a down to earth man with a beautiful voice who has had a remarkable life. He lives by a great set of values and it was without doubt one of my favourite episodes to date.

Brock McLean - Mental Health, Self-Worth & Overcoming Adversity

Brock McLean is a former AFL footballer who played 157 games across x2 Clubs – Melbourne F.C. and Carlton F.C.

A highly talented junior, Brock made the All-Australian u18 side and was taken with pick #5 in 2003 National Draft. He quickly established himself as a respected and leading midfielder in the competition.

However, what the public wasn’t aware of was the mental health battle, the drug and alcohol abuse and the diagnoses of depression and bipolar disease.

In this episode, we dig deep into Brock’s darkest times, his ability to bring himself back from adversity and the importance of speaking up when you are not OK. This is an inspiring and raw conversation with some simple yet critical reminders for us all;

  • Never worry about what other people think of you
  • Don’t be scared of failure
  • Be around people who make you happy
  • Make sure you talk to someone if you are struggling; speak up….it’s not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength.

I hope you are inspired by this episode as much as I was. It is truly a credit to Brock with the person he has turned out to be, and the amazing courage it took to turn his life around.

There are always people who want to help you, so please don’t fight your battles alone. Talk to a friend, family member or reach out to professionals. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
