AllJazz Podcast #5 - Arthur Gerards

59m · AllJazz Podcast · 01 Feb 09:33

In this episode I am talking to Arthur Gerards, who is a LesMills trainer, Triathlete and a Magician.

Arthur and I are a part of the Amsterdam Magic Show team since its inception and have mostly spent time together around that event. For this reason I am happy I to have had an opportunity to finally speak to Arthur a bit more in depth.

In the beginning of the conversation we touch on his role in the War Horse theatre production, the art of performing Magic, importance of practicing and creating moments of connection with the audience. In the second part of the conversation we touch on Arthurs athleticism and how it led him to want to be a Triathlete. Specifically Arthur has now finished two Ironman races, with the last race finishing under the 10h mark. Unfortunately life hit Arthur hard right before the second Iron Man race, as his mother passed away from cancer very suddenly. The conversation ends with Arthurs very positive and uplifting attitude which we hope listeners can take something away from to inspire them in their own lives.

AllJazz Podcast #7 - Martin Hansson

In this episode, we welcome Mr. Martin Hansson.

Although Magic is our common interest and initial spark to our friendship, we talk about his unique experience in performing magic for people suffering from dementia, his thoughts on martial arts and his aikido practice as well as the project to bring a magic course into the university program in Stockholm with Tom Stone, with whom he started a magic theatre project called Mystique in Stockholm, alongside John Henry and Leif Olberius. In the end of the conversation, we discuss and watch two acts developed with the Mystique group.

Martin Hansson’s career started in loud and chaotic venues, which gave him a knack for fast repartee and a crude humor. But the more he has ventured into theatrical environments, the more he have developed subtle work, and he is now able to make performances filled with contrasts – which have even given him prizes in international magic competitions.

AllJazz Podcast #3 Rico Weeland

We are back with another magic guest. This time I am talking to Rico Weeland

Rico is a dear friend and coincidentally one of the best young minds and hands in The Netherlands magic scene. His work has been praised by some great magicians like Michael Vincent, John Guastaferro, Shane Cobalt, etc

In our conversation we talk about his beginnings, that are funny and though provoking at the same time, the state of Magic as an art form & commercial commodity and in the end, Rico and I teach some basic card handling with two very strong and basically self working card tricks.

You can follow Rico’s work, projects and book him for gigs by clicking on the links below…

AllJazz Podcast #4 - UroŠ Rojko

Uroš Rojko is a contemporary composer, clarinetist and professor of composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. To find out more about and listen to his extensive works and discography visit:

https://www.uros-rojko.de/home

In this conversation we touch on how we met, became friends and how he inadvertently influenced my life by being the only progressive professor in the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 2004, that was willing to except a young woman (that just had a baby) to be her main professor for Composition. That young woman is my wife Petra Strahovnik that has built a big name for herself in the contemporary music scene and Uroš was and is a big part of that journey.

We discuss some more surprising connections between us and our significant others, as well as dive deep into connections between Music and Magic.
