Rosecut Market Update - December 2022 & 2023 Outlook

The holidays are almost here, which means cold nights, flashing lights and if you're lucky some presents too! Since everyone turns their attention to the festive period, analysts usually anticipate a seasonal uplift in stock markets this time of year, often referred to as the Santa Claus rally. But after a challenging year of high inflation levels, interest rate hikes and geopolitical tensions, many of us will just be glad to see the back of 2022.

For the final month of the year, our portfolio manager Daniel Greenhough and advisor Mike O'Sullivan mull things over for December and what they expect going into 2023. They look at how interest rate shifts impact the economy and some market leaders such as Tesla and Amazon have been subdued recently. They also discuss the potential effects of the US dollar strengthening and the risky path to an exit being taken by the Bank of Japan's Head as he gets ready to step down.

Rosecut Market Update - November 2022

As we edge closer towards the end of the year, a great deal of us will be glad to see the back of 2022 and its challenges. What with all the political uncertainty, record high inflation levels and a continuing cost of living and energy crisis hanging over us, a fresh start is welcome in 2023. This past month, the UK has at least partially restored its credibility with investors as seen by financial markets, but the Autumn Statement also served to highlight just what a dire state the economy is in. Fear not though, our investment team are here to break down things for you with their balanced view.

For this month of November, our portfolio manager Daniel Greenhough and advisor Mike O'Sullivan discuss US inflation numbers (CPI and PPI consumer producer prices) and midterm election results, tech stock movements, and both political and social reactions to the tough COVID stance in China. They even touch upon recent news on the cryptocurrency space with FTX, Tether and other exchanges.

Rosecut Market Update - October 2022

Each year October is recognised as being a rather frightening month. And we don't just mean for Halloween. October is known for historic market plunges, from the market crashes of 1929, 1987 and 2008, and this month continues to be just as challenging. Inflation in the UK has risen above 10% for the second time this year, as households come under pressure from the sharpest annual rise in food prices for more than 40 years amid the cost of living crisis.

For this month of October, our portfolio manager Daniel Greenhough and advisor Mike O'Sullivan discuss the market impact of the UK government's short-lived mini budget, along with pension funds and government bonds, as well as touching on Q3 earnings of companies in the US.

Rosecut Market Update - September 2022

Following the sad news about the recent passing of HM Queen Elizabeth, there has been a relatively calm environment in markets so far this month. Our investment team touch upon whether her death will affect markets in any way, as a common question from our clients.

For the month of September, our portfolio manager Daniel Greenhough and advisor Mike O'Sullivan also discuss recent trends in bond and FX markets, the recently announced energy cap and the UK housing market. They will also look at the US CPI numbers, which were released this week and discuss the anticipation for a pivot in approach from the Federal Reserve.
